I think that something has gone a bit wrong here. Looking at the imagery, way/71291677 and way/88818405 look like an attempt to draw the same feature, once as a service road and once as a footpath. I suspect the reality is that the feature has the physical characteristics of a service road with the access rights of a footpath (but it'll need a ground survey to find out). If you're not in a position to do that, perhaps add an OSM note so that someone (perhaps on the way to or from the ferry port) could have a look?

There seem to be two "Ilkeston & Heanor Delivery Office" now - way/319875408/history and way/268091207/history . Does that make sense?

If there's a discussion to be had about making this section of the A595 secondary rather than primary (like Oxford High Street) it needs to be made on talk-gb or similar, really.

Hello and welcome to OpenStreetMap!

I notice that you've added a name "Pennine Way" to this section of footpath just north of Woodhead way/82507222/history . I don't believe that this section of path is actually called this (or at least, it didn't when I was last there some time last year). It forms part of the "Pennine Way" long distance route of course, via relation/4080403 and ultimately relation/4080347 . If you want to see the relation overlaid on an OSM map the easiest way is probably http://waymarkedtrails.org/en/?zoom=13&lat=53.48539&lon=-1.91108&hill=0# .

What's the source (and licence terms) of the "Sabre Roader's Digest"?

From memory (it's about a month since I drove down here) the signage round the back of Meadow Lane is a bit odd. I believe that traffic east for the A52 _is_ sent this way, and it is signed as something, but I can't remember what. Maybe one of the previous mappers (if asked) might know?

(continuing changeset comment) - the rest isn't separate so added as cycleway=opposite_track. Also removed a section of duplicate footpath / track, and added a fixme to the footpath, which looks iffy.

In cases such as this (where someone's grabbed something in one continent and moved it somehere else) it might be easier to do I straight revert and then re-add the new stuff that they were trying to add (or get them to). It's also probably quicker than doing it manually. As it stands there are still a lot of things deleted at the Azerbaijan end of this changeset.

Also, it might help to let them know that something's gone a bit wrong in their original changeset, so that they can avoid it happening again.

@andygol How was the feedback "Path mis-aligned, should all be further west" submitted? If it's an area that you're not able to survey in person wouldn't it make more sense to add an OSM note so that someone local (of which SK53 and I are just two of many) could survey it on the ground?

Would it be possible to explain what "fixing highway intercts highway to fix, tiger http://osmlab.github.io/to-fix/?error=highwayhighway" means? This is a very wide changeset that overlaps with where I am in the UK. How do I find out what changes have been made locally, why, and what the source was?

28283281 almost 11 years ago

The changeset comment used here is "mispelled tags" yet way/30953829/history was changed from to "highway=footway" to "highway=track". Did you make that change based on survey (i.e. is the changeset comment incomplete)?

This looks very much like a mechanical edit - was it discussed anywhere first?

Even if the data in here was created because of a bug in a JOSM preset, it still makes sense to let other mappers know of the change because they may be relying on the previous value of data in the database when extracting.

Hello and welcome to OpenStreetMap.

I notice that you've added a "peak" called "Annesley Park Forest" at node/3300618138 . Just wondered where the name came from? Although the ground undulates a bit there, there isn't much of a "hill" to speak of at all. Are there any signs on any of the nearby paths using that name?

Sorry - what else was changed and where? What was the source?

What does "Unconnected major1 , http://osmlab.github.io/to-fix/?error=mixedlayer mean? The bounding box of the changeset is very large - how do I as a local mapper in England know what has been changed locally to me, why, and based on what source?

What does "Unconnected major1 , http://osmlab.github.io/to-fix/?error=unconnected_major1" mean? The bounding box of the changeset is very large - how do I as a local mapper in (say) Spain know what has been changed locally to me, why, and based on what source?

What does "Fixing ways - http://osmlab.github.io/to-fix/?error=highwayhighway" mean? What was actually changed, from what, to what, and based on what source?

As mappers, we all need to work together. Understanding what changes have been made is a first step along that road.

28249038 almost 11 years ago

This is a very wide changeset for a comment of "Fixed a highway intersecting a footpath". Was something else changed as well?

28264012 almost 11 years ago

In this case, did you contact the previous mapper to explain what you'd done? Fixing the data's all very well but if mappers don't know tat they're supposed to join footpaths to roads, they won't. It's important to communicate with other mappers and work together.

What does "to-fix (http://osmlab.github.io/to-fix/?error=unconnected_major1)" mean?

Meaningful changeset comments (and small geographical changeset areas) are extremely useful to help other mappers understand what changes are being made to their local areas. This changeset has neither of these.

Can you please explain what you have changed and why?

28284739 almost 11 years ago

What does "#map-feedback #851" mean? You've edited way/87779787 . Does that mean that you've surveyed it (i.e. actually been there) or are you just guessing based on aerial imagery?

What makes you classify this as a "path" rather than a footway? Based on my knowledge of the area (I've walked many paths around here) I'd say that footway was probably correct for part of it; track was probably correct for part of it, and path was wrong for all of it, but that an actually walk-along-the-path survey was needed to do it properly. If you haven't done that, you really shouldn't be changing tags like this.
