Help purchase 1:50k Topographic series of Swaziland?

I’ll help fund it.

Not everybody cares, but we do. We care a lot.

I make mistakes, everyone does. I should be better at admitting it.

But as you said with clichés, the data gets better with time, even if there are mistakes along the way.

Opening Musings

ZTM Warszawa used it for public transit data, it seems they no longer do? Derived from OSM?

Department of Transport and Planning, VIC, AU wanted to, but it seems they were talked out if it?

TfL use if for routing APIs (OSM data), but have actively contributed to OSM in the past. There are plenty more if we talk about creating/OSM first data including National Trust.

But I think it’s more about the future, OSM has won on roads. The worlds road network is ODbL. Lets win on everything.

Opening Musings

This is just a side affect though. They don’t care about small businesses either. This about the ODbL, they don’t want more copy left data. They don’t want OSM interacting with governments and businesses convincing them to release release copy left data.

PMTiles as a data source for the JOSM MapWithAI plugin

All the Places pmtiles also works, https://data.alltheplaces.xyz/runs/2023-09-09-13-32-00/output.pmtiles

The same reminder as for Overture. Probably don’t use it to add to OSM just yet, unless you’ve validated the data with street level imagery.

Overture Places Data: Matching to OSM Tags

Yeah it’s purposely on the Wiki so that anyone can change it and improve it. I thought about having it in git, which would have been easier for consumption, but I wanted it more accessible.

Overture Places Data: Matching to OSM Tags

I’ve started doing this the human way.

And I’ve written some some python to parse that into a dict, but I’ve not posted that anywhere.

Quick and Easy Surveying with a GoPro MAX 360° Camera

Yeah, I wouldn’t import. We use the data for QA though in GB.

Quick and Easy Surveying with a GoPro MAX 360° Camera

I hope GoPro paid you well, because I’m looking at Ebay right now…

It’s actually been on my shopping list for a while, but I’ve not pressed the buy button yet.

BTW if anyone wants to look at the Crumbl Cookies data, I’ve got it here.

How should I tag paths suitable for off-road wheelchairs and mobility scooters?

hmmm

I don’t know if there is an answer, I’ve got some ideas though:

  1. Make a tag, an access tag, something like motor_wheelchair as a cross between motor_vehicle and wheelchair? However, nothing will use the data.
  2. Just tag the physical and hope a router will use it. It looks like surface=fine_gravel, in theory a router for mobility scooters could route down it, while avoiding it for traditional wheelchairs.
Automating Viofo A129 Dashcam upload to Mapillary

Ahh, you’re tempting me to get a dash can and try it out. But I’d also have to get a car :p

Completing mapping of solar power in Wales

I’m pretty sure Overpass gets boundaries from multiple places, not just OSM. If so, I think adding them there would be better than OSM. But I’m not sure, I could be making it up.

Completing mapping of solar power in Wales

Wow is the only response I can think of, and that doesn’t come close to cutting it. You’ve done great work. This both puts my “efforts” to shame, and gives me motivation to do more.

I found that clustering buildings from Ordnance Survey Local gave a small enough set of areas to search. A geojson of centroids can be used either in the Josm “To Do” plugin, or the Potlatch 3 task option.

Can you give some more details on this?

Also do you know if we can filter overpass by Lower Super Output Area? When I map solar panels I like to have a layer in JOSM that only contains power=generator, I usually do this by an approx bbox or a larger area by name. Being able to use LSOA in a query would be great.

Adding buildings with RapiD - what to do with existing address nodes?

I had been combining the 2, so copy/paste the node tags onto the building way. (JOSM has “Merge address point”)

But now I’ve started leaving them separate, so in this case, deleting the building=yes from the node.

I do this for 2 reasons: * So future mappers can more easily add the address to the entrance node. (Or turn the address node into an entrance node by connecting it to the building and adding ‘entrance=home’) * building=yes in OSM are often multiple building and/or have multiple addresses.

I can see the second is not going to be an big issue in America with the sprawl. And the first is micro mapping that I don’t partake in. So no strong opinion from me.

Using Global Building Data

Yeah very nice, I had missed the release of this dataset.

Just set it up to with with MapWithAI in JOSM locally. It’s got some great footprints, and some weird ones.

My JOSM plugins and tag presets for ease of use and better mapping

I find it weird that NSI isn’t enabled by default in JOSM. It’s the first thing I do.

Using Esri Wayback Imagery in OSM Editors

Hmm, for some reason directly adding https://wayback.maptiles.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World_Imagery/WMTS/1.0.0/WMTSCapabilities.xml to JOSM doesn’t work. It would be awesome to be able to add that and directly find the available versions in JOSM.

How to run JOSM on Chromebook

Someone just found this, and asked me for help with it. This is a bit outdated and doesn’t work with Debian buster.

The quickest solution was just to use the one in the Debian repos. It might be a bit outdated, but it works.
