Subject: Re-tagging picnic sites with tourism=picnic_site tag
Hi,
I’ll be changing the tag from amenity=picnic_site
to tourism=picnic_site
tag as per this wiki, to find more information on this you can refer this diary entry.
This is the node that I have changed the tag for - osm.org/node/3353080237/history (The link to their node)
Thank you!
Best,
Jinal Foflia
Some pain points:
- It is a good idea to send a message to user intimating them about the change, but the process becomes tedious after a point of time. Since this was small number it could be managed. For bigger edits it would be a great idea to have a better way in which it can be communicated.
Statistics
I spent half a day doing this clean-up. A good amount of time was spent in communicating the users with the change made to their edits. These are the number of nodes added by me.

Excellent! I don’t know how you are supposed to to a mass edit like this, but your way seems fine. Good logic and excellent communication.
Not much content in my comment, bur I just thought you deserved some credit for your work :)

@jinalfoflia “last edited within a year” is about the threshold that I’d use for messaging previous mappers too.
Do you have any idea how many of the picnic sites in, say, the UK are as yet unmapped (there are now 1632 there according to http://taginfo.openstreetmap.org.uk/tags/?key=tourism&value=picnic_site , you changed 15 in osm.org/changeset/36125857 ).
Also how many of the things that are currently tagged as tourism=picnic_site do you think are mistagged?

@SomeoneElse
There are no open data sources that I know, which could help me verify the number of mis-tagged picnic_sites or number of picnic sites that are un-mapped.
