OpenStreetMap

New mapping addict

Posted by jimmyjamjar10101 on 6 January 2015 in English.

I have only just recently discovered OpenStreetMap’s existence, and have since been hooked on it. Now, driving around my home town I see a street, car park or other feature and wonder: Is that on OpenStreetMap?

My favourite edits so far have been entering in my schools that I attended as a child and I’m unsure why exactly, but I love entering parking aisles into all my local car parks.

My current goal is to confirm that every street in Launceston, Tasmania has the correct street name and category; and have the majority of residential buildings entered on the map. Which I understand is a huge undertaking, which is why I wouldn’t mind seeing some users making the adventure to little old Tasmania, Australia; especially Launceston :D

Happy mapping everyone!! :D

I visited my parents for Christmas and planned walking routes to nearby pubs based on where addresses still needed collecting (which seemed to be most areas - I must visit more often…). On the day that it rained (so my paper would have got soggy address collecting) I switched on the notes layer and worked out a driving route to check out a few of them to see if I could close them).

Yes, it can be a bit addictive trying to make the map that bit better than it was before. Enjoy…

I so wish I was in Tasmania right now for the WOC. I have been doing the same here in Nyköping Sweden, it takes time and I love it ;-)

Hi Jimmy, welcome to OSM. I took a look at Launceston; it’s a pretty large area. I started to work in the southern part, Prospect Vale and the area S of Meander Valley Road. Is there any particular part of the Launceston area that could use some attention from those of us who are advanced armchair mappers?

Hi bdiscoe, I’m currently working in the Northern Suburbs, so what you’re doing sounds good :)
