Is this maybe of help:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Track2osm
Also try a right mouseclick in JOSM on the gpx layer. I found this: http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=3782
I’m being faced with the same problem but have not yet solved it.

Off the top of my head, the following should work:
Be aware, however, that this comes with a few pitfalls and it is all too easy to break something if you’re not careful. Keep in mind the following:
That being said, drawing roads by hand is usually the preferred way – unless you are mapping a blank area from scratch.

Also works in the editor Potlatch2: “convert a vector layer object (gps trace or waypoint) into a way or node: click while holding the ctrl and shift keys (Linux) / alt key (Windows)”. See https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Potlatch_2/Shortcuts
But as said before, take care. You rarely need this.

Hello,
Your “test blaibel” changeset 26892428 for way 313588433 did work.
Unfortunately the live OSM database is not the place to conduct such experiments. There is now a somewhat misplaced, untagged way that crosses other ways which is of no use to anyone (except maybe yourself). I think there is a site to do this sort of experiment but cannot recall its name at the moment.
I think it should be realized that drawing ways in this manner is not effective, gpx tracks by the nature that they are made on a GPS are not going to be accurate. You still have to go over the entire way making adjustments, joining crossing ways etc. Also looking at the map in the first place would show that these particular ways are already mapped (in this case by your good self).
Will you now be removing/deleting the above mentioned changeset?
Regards

Although it sounds like a good idea I don’t think it is. Much better to upload your trace and use that together with the other available traces to get the best average to align Bing and use that to draw your road. I my experience traces have lots of small zig zags and other faults that are best left out. Even without Bing then I’d still draw the roads with human input. This is what we did before Ariel became available, it’s hard to imagine now! happy mapping.

Toni, converting gpx traces to data and then upload to osm is NOT recommended. What you should do instead is go to your profile on openstreetmap.org and click the link called “my gps-traces”. There you should find yet another link called “Upload gps-trace”. Click that and you should be at a form appropriate for uploading.
