Private driveways as residential roads? please be careful.

Thanks for adding a residential area to the map! We need far more in CT.

I can see you're struggling to get the editor to do what you want. So just actual errors:

* We map what's on the ground. That open area behind the Youth Education Centre for example should not be in your residential area, even if it's "in the suburb".
* The name should just be "Ferness", not "Ferness, Cape Town" etc.

If you need some help cleaning up the extra area added or have any questions, feel free to shout.

Review:
Your address tagging should have Brooklyn as a suburb (addr:suburb) and the addr:city as Cape Town.
The name of your office should just be "LinkQage".
The area you marked as commercial should rather be tagged as a commercial building.
Generally a good idea to add a phone number/site.

CORDS edit: should probably just be an office, unless you're going to add the whole building.

The issue lies more in the 'road' aspect.
The idea with roads is that they are for travel between places.
These are just ways to access inside property/building/parking places.
These are generally private and you would not drive into one without a resident opening for you.
You would not expect to drive through one because your GPS/phone routed you into/through a private complex ;)
Residential roads are just a catch-all for 'normal public road' in SA and will basically always have an official name.

These private complex ways are not residential roads, they are service- or driveways with private access etc. Not just this changeset either.

This changeset includes bad way tagging (residential) and no access tags. This makes a routing mess. Please fix. You'll find some at osm.org/go/kPdMUvwgx--?m= for example.

A lot of these residential roads you added are service ways or driveways.

Hey, the campsite added in this change does not seem to exist. Think you meant a trail starting point or something. Removed for now.

This edit puts a service way thought the middle of a police station... pretty sure that's bogus. Could also be neater, looks like finger smudged paths.

Good first edit (I'll pretend eh)

Way could be better aligned (More northerly, less diagonal) (Use the ESRI/City of Cape Town imagery for these areas); Tagging of incline removed.

This change damages relations and the 'alignment' is worse than the previous version.

Please use a better set of images for adjusting roads. MAXAR is terrible in most of Africa. We have local City of Cape Town maps which are STRONGLY recommended, or ESRI which are good too.

I've also noticed you tagging a lot of ways as residential roads in Cape Town, when they are private residential driveways or general serviceways. (The chances of needing to map 'new' residential maps in the suburbs is very low, and most other stuff is private)

Please be careful merging way segments. This broke a fairly large local relation and damaged another.

Fixing relations is far more time consuming, and the general guideline is to generally avoiding 'optimizing' ways.

Thanks for the recent changes in the area. Just reviewing things now as a local.
This change also includes two 'new' service roads connecting completely different parts of suburbs near the Steurhof train station.
These are completely incorrect and need to be removed and the adjoining bits restored. One is a footpath and the other just does not exist at all.

These are not roads, these are private accessways that are not named and have been constructed by property owners... they are not residential roads. At best they are service- or driveways.

You are making more work for people later on and unnecessary changes.
