Welcome!
I am a new editor here, just moving from a similar program led by a large multinational company; that other place just didn’t deliver due to too much supervision and a very laggy editing program.
I am excited to clean up much of the area I was on my previous project: Southeastern New Mexico. Despite not being very populous, there is much to offer in the region and I hope it can be of help to visitors (whether for business or pleasure).
Feel free to send me a message if you’ve got any questions, and happy mapping!

Welcome!
Great to see new mappers coming across from a closed to an open project.
Not sure how much “supervision” you will find, as we do not have the concept of formal moderation for map edits. However, there are many sources of support from the community. As a starting point, set your home location on your user page, and OSM will tell you of other mappers nearby.
A great place to ask questions is:

Happy mapping!

If you want a snappy editing environment, use JOSM : http://josm.openstreetmap.de - may be a bit overwhelming in the beginning, but you get used to it you won’t want anything else… I have been using it for three years and I’m still from time to time finding tricks to speed up my mapping.
Yesterday I was despairing over a place where there are seemingly more contributors feeding that proprietary monster precious data that they will never be able to use as they see fit… So I’m glad to see that at least some of them are coming to the free world !
