local OSM meetups - that's it

Posted by !i! on 3 March 2011 in English.

The past weeks I got in contact with every OSM nation that is active on the wiki or mailinglists. The result is not that impressing as I expected: there are only 87 groups Oo

What I found out is, that a lot of nations are connected using very losely networks of skype, irc, ... mostly cause the distance is to high or the most live somewhere else and do armchair mapping.

don’t know about anywhere else but there are quite often meetings scattered round the UK as well as the regular events in London and Birmingham, and they don’t show up on the map.

You may not find it impressive, but if someone said to me there were "almost 100 organized groups around the world", I'd be impressed.

Yes but cause I thought in german user dimensions I expected some more ;) But let it might be that this might be a first step to bring this idea to more mappers
