Australia (WA) - Armchairmappers needed

Hey Guys,

Just noticed there are a lot of big lakes in Australia that are not mapped although Bing imagery is available. So I'm asking Armchair-Mappers to help mapping them :)

If you're working on one of the lakes please leave a comment! Thanks

Great idea!

I've had a crack at Lake Cowan.

Dundas and Austin looks mapped.

Comment from liftarn on 17 March 2011 at 09:28

Did Lake Wells.

HokusPokus did Dundas and Austin. Good job!
Still 4 left

first rough outline of Percival Lakes

Comment from alexis78 on 17 March 2011 at 13:43

Percival : trying to draw a finer outline from Bing images. From high up, this seems to be a shallow lake and mostly sand banks, making it hard to tell where the land ends and the water starts... so the outline remains somewhat approximative.

Comment from Hokuspokus on 18 March 2011 at 13:08

Lake Cowan has large areas coverd with I guess salt. I think these areas should be seperated.

Comment from liftarn on 18 March 2011 at 13:26

Dumbleyung looks done.

Comment from liftarn on 18 March 2011 at 13:32

Did a rough trace of Disappointment. Very difficult to tell what is land and what is water.

Comment from alexis78 on 18 March 2011 at 14:44

I've gone as far as I can, given the sat image quality, my patience and my total lack of understanding of the area I'm tracing... So, regarding Percival Lakes : all major bodies of water I could see from bing, the major islands inside them are done. Not always / not everywhere with a high level of detail, but curvy enough to follow the land (?) and look natural(-ish).

This was, to me, an exercise in something different, and a kind of exotism by proxy (I'm nowhere near Australia, and won't be able to visit in the foreseeable future). I'll go back to my own area now. Everyone is welcome to pick up from where I left and enhance what I started.

Cheers, everyone !

Did Lake Tay.

Comment from liftarn on 18 March 2011 at 15:55

And a rough trance of Lake Mason. Is it really that small?

Comment from liftarn on 18 March 2011 at 15:57

Lake Seabrook done (I think).

Comment from liftarn on 18 March 2011 at 16:01

And Lake Marmion. I think the east side may need some improvement.

Comment from Ohr on 18 March 2011 at 20:02

Added Lake Barlee - now I know why it was still not done even though it was the first one. Probably didn't catch all islands.

There also seems to be a smaller lake just north which still waits for mapping.

Comment from liftarn on 21 March 2011 at 09:02

Lake Gregory done.

Comment from Ohr on 25 March 2011 at 20:23

Added Lake Magenta

Comment from Ohr on 25 March 2011 at 20:37

Also just traced Lake Noondie

Comment from Ohr on 26 March 2011 at 16:40

I've just added Lake Maurice. Also Lake Yindarlgoodo has already been mapped by someone. I've adjusted the tagging so it's now rendered as a lake.

Comment from Ohr on 26 March 2011 at 21:42

Ok, finally also mapped Lake Carnegie, although the eastern part could be more detailed. But the shape is quite weird to draw.

There are also pretty small lakes mentioned. Lot's of them haven't been checked.
