potlatch drives me nuts again!

Sorry - the connection to the OpenStreetMap server failed.
Any recent changes have not been saved.

Would you like to try again ? Retry | Cancel

Clicking Retry does not reveal anything but when I refeshed the page there was no error anymore and the last edited way shows up correctly...

And then another error:

An unusual error happened (in 'pulway'-33). The server said: Precondition failed: the node with id -681 either does not exist or is not visible.

Please email richard bla bla...

What the hack does that mean?!?

If you have edited a long time on a way without being sure that at least some part of your way has been saved from time to time all your edit might be lost!!

Yeah, I’ve been pretty paranoid about saving all the time the last few days, because I keep running into those issues. By the way, try opening another copy of Potlatch in a different tab or window, to see if the changes actually went through regardless.

experienced almost the same just recently, and it was hell. either it was API hiccups or something else.

With the second error you still can 'see' your track in potlatch but you don't seem to have a possibility to save it by any means - a second window won't help...

"Please email richard bla bla... What the hack does that mean?!?"

It means what it says. Please e-mail me so I can have a look at identifiying and, if necessary, fixing the problem.

Consider using JOSM; it's less prone to losing your work if you or the server unexpectedly go offline.

Paul Johnson - aggrieved JOSM users on IRC say otherwise ;)

Richard, perhaps Potlatch could have an automated Mail Richard button, much like the Mail button on the history dialog. It could be prefilled with a specific error message. That’d make users more inclined to actually send the reports your way.

I'm not that suicidal. :) Seriously, we're doing ok for reports at the moment, but if we need some more than that'd be a good idea.
