Nüvi-Garmin OSX OSMtoIMG

Posted by Remiguel on 19 February 2009 in English (English)

I am mapping with a small Nüvi-Garmin and editing with JOSM on OSX. I like hiking with the last uptodate OSM Map and have looking for a user friendly application to export data from OSM to Img.
I found DoMyMaps written by Lao. But the download link is currently dead. Lao is correcting some issues and will hopefully share his program again, at the end of March 2009.
I found also a small application call OSMtoIMG (really descriptive name)and have try it out. The result was good enought according my expectation.
I do not know why this application was anounced on OSM Wiki http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin(See Cache) and now removed. Does somebody know the reason of stopping linking this application. Has somebody got trouble with this software? Any information would be welcome.

I should definitely check GroundTruth (search for it on the wiki) which has rules tailored for hiking.

Thanks Federico, it sounds great, but it seems the application is more for windows users oriented. I will investigate on how I can run it under OSX (Terminal command line)

It bundles a compiled version of mkgmap without source code, violating the GPL. Also, asking for donations when you're redistributing other software without even giving credit is at least questionable.

@robx

Do you refer to OSMtoIMG? In this case I can better understand why the link were removed from the Wiki. At least, in my case, I was not asked for any donation.

@Remiguel
You are right, GroundTruth is a .NET app which currently runs only on Windows. In the meantime, if you give me your bounding box, I could try generating an IMG file for you with GroundTruth and see if it works properly. I am testing it.
