GMapCatcher updated :o)

Posted by Henri Willox on 29 March 2011 in English.

GMapCatcher 0.7.6.0 is out ! :o)

* http://code.google.com/p/gmapcatcher/

From the site:

GMapCatcher is an offline maps viewer. It downloads tiles automatically from many providers such as:CloudMade, OpenStreetMap, Yahoo Maps

It displays them using a custom GUI. User can view the maps while offline. GMapCatcher doesn't depend on the map's JavaScript so it should work even if they change them. It also provides a downloading tool.

It's always nice to have a new release of OSM related software ...

... but:

in the OSM wiki we even have a page for this app (created in April 2010): http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/GMapCatcher

But there is NO other page linking to this!

And the useful template http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Template:Software2 is also missing.

So lets work a bit to make this app more popular??

and it seems to be a similar application like http://code.google.com/p/vataviamap/ ... which is not present in the OSM wiki as well ...

Does it comply with the tile usage policy, if using the openstreetmap.org servers? http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tile_usage_policy
Note the tile usage policy says "Bulk downloading is strongly discouraged. Do not download tiles unnecessarily."
