TopoFusion (a GPS mapping software) 4.2 is out :o)

From the website: "TopoFusion Pro has a new release, version 4.2, now available. We’ve got some exciting new features, as the software continues to improve. First we have two new map tilesets with global coverage — Mapquest’s street tiles based on Open Street Maps data and also the Open Aerial tileset. Both are great additions to the software, offering a different (and faster) rendering of Open Street Maps data, and in some cases higher resolution color aerial data in the Open Aerial layer."

osm2postgresql updated :o)

Posted by Henri Willox on 29 April 2011 in English.

osm2postgresql updated to 0.3 Beta :o)

From the site: "osm2postgresql is a GNU/Linux bash script loading openstreetmap data into a postgresql database (setting up if necessary the server and a database with postgis and hstore extensions). Advanced processing is performed to ease rendering with QGIS"

Release notes for version 0.3

This version provides a few bug fixes and a fex improvements.

Main bug fixes are:

- Do not rely on latest osmosis but on a fixed version. This PREVENTED THIS SCRIPT TO WORK since the release of Osmosis 0.39 in early April 2011 (sorry for this). The osmosis team does not provide backward compatibility in the sense that their script names have changed (even for those which, apparently, still do the same thing). osm2postgresql now downloads a specific version of osmosis to avoid surprises.

- Better management of the path if using the --install option

From the site:

WorldMap ALPHA is an experimental platform designed for viewing and interpreting maps collaboratively. Today maps come from many sources and take many forms, from paper atlases to digital satellite images to census files. WorldMap aims to pull these and other hard-to-find maps together and make them available to researchers to explore, share, annotate, and remix.

WorldMap combines modeling capabilities of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with current web technologies, and is made available as Open Source software. Use the hosted version of WorldMap here or download and run the application on your own server. WorldMap stands on the shoulders of other Open Source projects including AfricaMap, GeoNode, OpenLayers, PostGIS, and GEOS. WorldMap is licensed under Version 3 of the GNU General Public License (GPL).

International Mileage Charts

Posted by Henri Willox on 1 March 2011 in English.

From the Winwaed Software site :

We also have a series of International Mileage Charts which, when complete, will include every country in the World with more than one city with a population of 1000.

Country tables are organized according to continent:

Africa - http://www.mileage-charts.com/osm/AF/index.shtml
Asia - http://www.mileage-charts.com/osm/AS/index.shtml
Europe - http://www.mileage-charts.com/osm/EU/index.shtml
North America - http://www.mileage-charts.com/osm/NA/index.shtml
Oceania - http://www.mileage-charts.com/osm/OC/index.shtml
South America - http://www.mileage-charts.com/osm/SA/index.shtml

As well as downloadable mileage charts, city listings, maps, and table statistics are provided.

These are computed with OpenStreetMap data and report the shortest route distances in kilometers. Although the OpenStreetMap data is global, coverage varies from area to area. Therefore many of the mileage charts are incomplete. We shall be recomputing the mileage charts on a roughly annual basis, and keeping track of their coverage as the OpenStreetMap database expands.
