Working my way across Texas

Posted by 25or6to4 on 22 July 2009 in English.

Haven't posted in a while, so thought I would.

Interstates across Texas are complete, except for I-45 from Dallas to Houston. There's some construction I'm unsure about north of Houston, and imagery is moderate at best, so I passed on it for now. Am starting to work my way through US Routes in Texas. U.S. 54, 57, and 59 are complete with relations. Currently working across U.S. 60, which is complete from the TX/NM line to Canyon.

Am also starting work on reimporting some new and better line data. TIGER data for some Texas counties was extremely bad. I have recently contacted the Texas Natural Resources Information System, which is the state's GIS clearinghouse. They have let me know that their data is public domain and had no problem with us using it. Have been in contact with Chris Lawrence, who holds many scripts for converting shapefiles to ways. Some counties will not need resetting, some will. I have created pages for TNRIS upload and will also make a subpage to list yes/no for each county (all 254!).

Hey there - some of us are working on connecting the Interstates across the whole US - properly fixing them up (making them dual carriageways, fixing junctions etc). There's a grid of connected cities at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/TIGER_fixup/250_cities - maybe you'd be interested in working on more of them?
