Post When Comment
PA Cleanup (overpass-turbo)

Hey, at least talk to me instead of calling me out like this man! This isn’t cool at all.

My comment on ways is NOT garbage. I was putting the exact source for the name of a way, and where I got it. This is helpful for users to know what year version of Tiger the name for a way showed up in. Especially if the road was originally imported back in the day, but lacked a road name in Tiger at that time.

Gotta love people who don't look at the satillte imagery and ajacent ways and think that turn lanes need to be fixed. :/

This can possibly happen on bigger roads when a new lane is being added to the highway. See my new post on the tagging list explaining how I’ve been using ways with the “none;slight_right” & “slight_left;none” tags: https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2016-June/029342.html

Mapping exit numbers on US motorways

I would recommend talking about this on [talk-us] as well. Gets more eyes on it. Most US users don’t see these diary entries.

Re-tagging quadrant routes in Pennsylvania, USA from `ref` -> `ref:penndot`

Plus I hope you will fix any ‘ref:penndot=Sr *’ tags to ‘ref:penndot=SR *’ that were done in the ‘test’ period. ;)

Also, there might be a few ‘quadrant’ routes hidden in the regular ref tags with another ‘normal’ route. Is there an easy way to find these as well and fix them too?

For example, if a ref is ‘ref=US 22 Business;SR3006’, would you be able to find that hidden ‘SR3006’ and move it to the ‘ref:penndot=’ tag?

GeoKitten, that’s because whenever I saw them over here in the Pittsburgh area, I fixed them. ;)

Charlotte North Carolina

I agree that the buildings you traced from the left over nodes should be deleted, including the left over nodes, in the Charlotte area.

While most of the buildings are verifiable via Bing, they should just be redone properly via a discussed import or by manual tracing.

"Wisepilot map reporter" is absolutely useless

Wisepilot Support, will the reports in the USA, in the future, be in MPH instead of km/h?

Complex Intersections, or Why We Should Get Rid Of exit_to

Oh, and I think we need to leave the exit numbers on the node for the splits. Mainly because we use the ‘ref’ tag on ways for when there is a route that gets off the highway and goes onto the surface route there.

If anything, I would not have any objections if we add the Exit number(s) to the ‘name’ tag on the ways like this: ‘name=Exit 77’. Otherwise, we could have to create a completely new tag for the numbers. Maybe ‘destination:ramp:ref’ or ‘destination:exit:ref’? That’s all I can think of right now.

Complex Intersections, or Why We Should Get Rid Of exit_to

Oh, btw, Ontario doesn’t even use exit_to or the destination tags. They add everything to the ‘name’ tag.

Complex Intersections, or Why We Should Get Rid Of exit_to

Well, the main reason I can think of that people use ‘exit_to’ more, it is because that it is built into JOSM on the ‘Motorway Junction’ preset. We would need to get that part removed and also a new preset added for properly tagging ramps themselves.

I personally have no problems with going with either format myself, just as long as we all agree on a proper format, like having or not having ‘hyphens’ in the route numbers and stuff like that. Also, I think we should spell out the cardinal direction in the ‘destination:ref*’ tags. Sure, there is only one word each of those could mean, but when you then get into routes that have spurs and such, spelling stuff out might be a better option, and then allow the router to abbreviate it on their end.

Heck, I would love it if we could have the motorway junction preset expanded to allow adding the split ramp exit numbers with ease instead of adding them manually.

Android OSM apps

Does anybody know if OsmAnd supports U-Turn restrictions? And if it does, how to report about a bug where it told me that I could do it when I can’t at that intersection (I personally put the restriction in a few years ago)?

Thanks for the suggestions everybody. I’ll check them out when I get the chance.

New MapRoulette Challenge: Ways Needing Smoothing

I think I know what that feature is Martijn. hehe. I will not post what I think it is here (so not to spoil your future diary post about it if I’m correct), but I did just shoot you a PM with my guess if you want to tell me if I’m right or wrong. ;)

New MapRoulette Challenge: Ways Needing Smoothing

Yes, I’m having major problems with maproulette right now too. I’ve been lucky to load only a few challenges over the last ~3 days. The initial challenge loads, and then I can’t get the next one to work, even if I fix the one that did load or even mark it as it wasn’t a mistake (if it really was a mistake of course).

Another new MapRoulette challenge: Suspected Missing / Wrong One Way Streets

which would be another good indication that it is a one-way street, because it is illegal in the United States to park in the opposite direction of the flow of traffic.

If this was true Martin, a ton of my neighbors should have gotten tons of tickets. I live on a two-way road and they park facing the opposite direction on each side of the road almost every day. And we even have a few cops that live in the neighborhood.

The first 30-day challenge: retrospective

@nfgusedautoparts I had reported ada_s to the DWG & the contest back on Feb 21st. I did get a response back from the DWG that they were going to contact him, but it seems like it got lost in the shuffle and nothing was ever done. As for the contest people, no idea if they got the e-mail or not…

=====

@bdiscoe I’m with ‘Your Village Maps’ on wondering how you could get so many points so quickly when you claim to be limited by a full-time job + gf. I’m in the same boat was YVM right now, and I couldn’t even score the same amount of points in one day as you (were you using your ‘Auto roads’ to do a lot of your edits as well?). I mean, I took ~7 hours on one changeset and I was lucky that day to get, I think it was, just over 3000 points for that work cleaning up all of I-376’s interchanges (lane counts and alignment fixes) and throwing in the parking lots @ Pittsburgh International Airport into the same changeset.

I also did notice earlier in the contest that you did several ‘name expansion’ edits using your script that you posted recently about in a previous diary entry (one of them with over 700 edits and you did it somehow in 7 seconds from a previous changeset and you gained ~2100 points). You do know that using scripts like that was against the contest rules, and should have lead to a DQ, right?

  1. Only edits for the United States map will be awarded points. Edits for other countries will not qualify for points. Edits must be made by editors themselves. The use of any automated launching, entry software or any other mechanical or electronic means that permits the participant to automatically register and/or edit repeatedly is prohibited and all such entries will be disqualified. Editors registering multiple user IDs will be disqualified.

Don’t know how long that link will be active with old contest page, but that’s a direct copy and paste from the rules of the contest.

Oh, and I thought you weren’t going to enter the new contest… I do see you’re doing edits for it already it seems.
