Please don't write the description as the name

like Empty Ground (Formerly Slum)

Hi angys,

I noticed you often add "(U/C)" to name tags for projects under construction. In OSM, it’s better to keep the name tag as the official name (e.g., "Pulau Silikon"). Use construction=* + landuse=construction to indicate the status. For example:

name=Pulau Silikon
name:en=Silicon Island
construction=industrial
landuse=construction
description=Project under construction

Hey rene78

I noticed the use of the name=* tag for the footbridge construction project. In OSM, the name tag is typically reserved for official or widely recognized names of features. For descriptive or contextual information, it’s better to use the description=* tag (e.g., description=Footbridge construction on hold since 2020).

Pembetulan tag name=*, buang akhiran "(U/C)". tag construction=residential dah cukup

Cuma nak tegur kat bahagian taman Central Park. Tag name=* jangan letak sekali dengan nama tempat ya.

place=square

Tokyo Street (11412482060), v1
Centre Court (11412482061), v1
Dining Loft (11412482062), v1

I don't think this is a correct way to use place=square

You should not name a feature to describe what it is unless it specifically called that. Quoting from OSM wiki:

"Do not use name=* if:

The feature is known by a generic term or description such as "toilet" or "basketball court". Use a feature tag to indicate the type in a language-neutral, machine-readable way. You can also use description=* or note=* if other tags do not quite express what distinguishes the feature from others of the same type."

I saw that you name the walkway "River of Life Walkway". I don't think there's anywhere specifically mention the name of this walkway as such. Hence, it is unwise to name it that way. And IF it does have a name, please name it in Bahasa Melayu in name=*. Thanks

Please don't name the feature by it's description

Like naming a Surau as "Surau"

Please use building=commercial instead of landuse=* next time :]

Please draw the buildings only, not the whole lot. You can change the lot to barrier=* if you want to mark each lot with another polygon marking the building (drawn detached)

Yes I understand. But as I mentioned earlier "How the end user (in this case Grab) want to interpret the tag is up to them". OpenStreetMap is community-edited map and the tagging should be based on local community consensus. Grab should not tag anyhow they want without the community consensus just because that's how Grab routing software interpret certain tag. Hence, we should consult the community first for the interpretation of the tag.

Hi ainayusof,

The general consensus on the use of access=* tag is:

access=private -> For places with access cards/special permission
access=no -> For places that nobody can physically go through

access=*#Introductory_examples

How the end user want to interpret the tag is up to them.

Oh thanks Zh9567. I just caught up with the issue on the Telegram group 😅

And on residential=* tag osm wiki (residential=*) , there already exist residential=terrace

95716046 almost 2 years ago

Sorry but isn't that just place=neighbourhood? and "Taman" comes from "Taman Perumahan" which translates to residential area. Seems like it's a direct (and kinda innacurate) translation of the word "Taman"

Hi. Can I know what do you mean by residential=garden. On taginfo it seems like it's an uncommon tag

May I know what conflicts or validation errors occured from changeset/146020841. The changeset is just me adding Jawi script ("name:ms-Arab"=*) tag to the states relations

Oh sorry I misread the article. They just suggested to change it to access=private
