Mapbox's probably fragmentary "Tracking conversations" tool
Posted by malenki on 19 April 2016 in English. This message I wanted to send to Mapbox. Regrettably you either need to create an account to “contact” them or use some fancy social network foo.
Ever written an email on twitter?
Thus I paste the mail here and link it on twitter. Brave new world…
Hi,
in January you published a new tool named “tracking conversations”¹ which is supposed to list (I assume all) comments a user made on Notes or Changeset Discussions at OSM.
Querying for changeset discussions I contributed to since January shows a meagre three discussions:
https://www.mapbox.com/osm-comments/#/changesets/?q=from:2016-01-01%20users:malenki&show=all
Pascal Neis’ tool which shows only the discussions of the last seven days lists seven changeset discussions from me: http://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-discussions#11/51.1279/14.2215
Do I handle your tool wrong or does it have a bug?
Best regards
[malenki]
Please send an answer to osm at malenki dot ch
(It would be useful to have an “your email address”-field on the tech support form as well)

Hi malenki, thanks for the report. We’re tracking the issue here where you can follow the progress of fix. Reporting more bugs in the project repository will get our immediate attention, or you can also message any of us from the data team through OSM or IRC.
The tool currently only lists threads that was started by the user and has replies, not those participated in. Not sure if this is what you were expecting.

Hi PlaneMad,
thank you for the quick response.
The changeset discussions I started during the last 7 days are these:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/38685901 https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/38112895
https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/38643455

https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/38493694

I think it is safe to assume I started more than three this year. :)

Hi,
Thanks for the bug report. Indeed, “from” searches for the date of the changeset and not the comment. Tracking that here: https://github.com/mapbox/osm-comments-api/issues/45
For now, will clarify the documentation to reflect the same.
Thanks again for the report - it is entirely possible that there are other problems with the current SQL code, which is in dire need of a refactor. Will look into the issue - happy to know there are more people than us trying to use this :)
Would be very happy if you filed issues on our public issue tracker: https://github.com/mapbox/osm-comments/issues . Of course, feel free to email me at sanjay at thecompanyiworkfor.com (mapbox)
Thanks, Sanjay

This is also related to: https://github.com/mapbox/osm-comments-api/issues/44 - unfortunately, a limitation right now is that we will only show changesets that have been created by the user/s that are being searched for.
This is primarily because the immediate use case for us was finding changesets that we had created that had conversations / comments.
I can see that one expects to find all changesets where one has participated in conversation when searching for users: though, and the documentation could use some clarification, and ideally, this feature implemented soon.

sanjayb, your first comment explains the current behaviour correctly, thank you for that one.
For searching changeset discussions I only know Pascal’s and your tool. Yours promises far superior results so I hope you will enhance it soon.
