After a summer break here we are. We just got over 5000 Table Tennis Tables in Switzerland. Here is the [TagInfo]{https://taginfo.osm.ch/tags/sport=table_tennis#chronology} We can expect another boost the next days because I have an agreement with my neighbour driving pingpongtische.ch, that we can use his database to find yet unmapped tables in OSM. We would not just import these, but scroll through them and check if we can verify their positions with the Swisstopos SwissIMAGE.

So for the next 1000… :-)

I change the search pattern once again. There is a OGD dataset called SwissNAME3D which I filter in QGIS by “OBJEKTART” = ‘Schul- und Hochschulareal’. Then I use the Go2nextfeature3+ plugin to scroll through all these kind of schools just to look for table tennis tables. As today I passed 1200 of about 10400 school objects in that database. So expect some more TTT to come. :-)

We now have passed 3000 Table Tennis Tables in Switzerland alone. That is one seventh of the entire OSM TTT population. :-P

Tennis tables in Switzerland are often linked to schoolyards, public pools, campings, prisons a.s.o. Thus the main strategy is to download open datasets or OSM sets containing alike and then jumping from object to object in QGIS using the Go2nextFeature+ plugin and than screen the surroundings for Table Tennis Tables on the SwissImage. On detection you can directly jump to JOSM using the JOSM remote function of the Quick OSM plugin.

I pretty recently started to play table tennis, about weekly against my mate Roman. It is only then I noticed that table tennis tables TTT’s are a real ubiquity, especially on school-yards. Thus whenever you need a break, proceed to the nearby TTT and have fun. :-)

How to find? - I composed a umap containing all OSM mapped TTT’s in Switzerland. ( to date: 1081 TTTs)

You can contribute to the collection mapping TTTs and tagging the nodes with leisure=pitch + sport=table_tennis. Here is the according OSM Wiki Page.

These tags are btw. the key to get your own data-set of TTTs over your region from overpass-turbo.eu.
