No Waiting

Posted by kucai on 14 October 2014 in English.

I am getting tired fixing the automated notes. For every river crossing, some darned program will put a river name note. For every overpass, it will put no waiting on both sides of the bridge. Then there is the “Go ahead” notes popping up here and there.

Luckily, our main North South highway is only few hundred kilometers long. God help me if it is as long as I-40…

Those notes seem to be of little value indeed. You should try asking on the mailing list, to identify the guilty program and fix the root cause.

I’ll consider that. Somehow trying to fix anonymous note like these might just mean doing it manually. Those notes seems to be an automatic import from some gps nav software by some well meaning soul. (that’s the bad part- quite a few mappers here are trying to quickly populate the map without regard of legality of where those information come from)

Maybe there should be a policy that no note should be created automatically.

there is already policy of not doing so: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Notes - the red box marked as “Don’t s”. But in case someone wants to do so there is no way (at least I don’t know about it) how to stop him/her…

Then this should definitely be reported to the @talk mailing list.
