Well I walk to work everyday along the same route everyday, I see the same signs for businesses everyday, I see the same buildings everyday. But some of them are not on OSM so I figured that I would make them as my first edits.

Good work. Before long you will have the addiction/bug and be changing your route to work in order to map more stuff.

I know that was exactly what I was thinking, leave for work a little early, take a round about way, etc etc... haha.

I use my phone to take pictures of things. I can't always remember the name of this or the value of that. My phone also geotags the picture so I know exactly where I was gathering that information. If you have a camera or picture phone this may be useful for you too.

I've had the bug for a long time, but havn't been able to actively gather proper information in a loong time, now with my new phone that might change.........
