over 2 years ago | @DP24PH: Dasmariñas LGU does NOT have a uniform no left turn policy. It always varies depending on the intersection. To publish turn restrictions based on your own 'internal policies' instead of reflecting verifiable on-the-ground data is detrimental to the end user as this affects navigation in Apple Maps and even GrabCar prices!
almost 3 years ago | Your edit wrongly tagged the intersection of Ramona S. Tirona Ave and N419 as one way preventing southbound left turns. Do not edit one way tags without ground level confirmation to avoid such instances in future.
almost 4 years ago | I moved it specifically to Plaza Mexico as a compromise between Intramuros and Binondo. With changeset/116714470, I moved it to Lawton Rd between the post office and Jones Bridge based on your input, but not further south so it'll still be close to both Intramuros and Binondo.
almost 4 years ago | Hi, TagaSanPedroAko, seav, and DP24. Sorry for the late response, but thank you for your inputs. I placed the city node back to the area near the intersection but further south (specifically at McDonalds) from the original node near the Zapote-Talaba border. Changeset: 116713894 I guess it all depends on perspective. If you're a native of Bacoor, you'll associate 'Bacoor' as the poblacion area, if you're from the cities south of Bacoor, you'll probably associate it near SM, if you're from Manila/north of Bacoor, you'll associate it near the Molino Blvd junction.
almost 4 years ago | Hi! Thanks for the input. Reverted with changeset/116713766.
almost 4 years ago | I've noticed that you have been making lots of edits in Greater Manila without proper changeset comments. Please indicate in your changeset comment a brief summary of the changes that you have made to aid fellow mappers in the review of your edits.
about 4 years ago | I will revert the name back to 'Pasig Line Street' because this street explicitly has 'St' on one of its street signs. This can be confirmed by a recent Mapillary image captured at its intersection with Augusto Francisco St.
about 4 years ago | Eliminated all primary and secondary ways in historic old Manila, consistent with other cities with historic old centres like Milan and Madrid. Most roads previously designated as primary or secondary ways in the vicinity are used mainly by local traffic (Jones Bridge) or lead to heavily pedestrianised and congested inner city streets (MacArthur Bridge). Most through routes go around the city centre via C-1, Quezon Blvd, or Roxas Blvd, but tertiary ways are retained for local intracity routing.
about 4 years ago | Okay, thanks! I'll focus on street name suffixes after I downgrade the main Zambales highway (between Olongapo and Lingayen-Dagupan) to primary.
about 4 years ago | It is not that close to AH26/Maharlika. It may be a similar case to the Santiago-Tuguegarao Road (51) or the Andaya Hwy in Bicol, both 'close' and parallel to AH26. I'll argue that Aguinaldo is of higher or equal importance to the segment of Maharlika Hwy in Laguna due to the existence of SLEX which carries most of the Laguna traffic. I am convinced that a trunk network should exist south of Dasmariñas. It may be proper to call a discussion with the wider community on whether 421 or 436 should be the best candidate for trunk. Route 421 (Talisay-Tanauan), according to a landslide map is less prone to landslides than Diokno Hwy is. I am now leaning slightly more towards route 421 over my original edit traversing Diokno Hwy due to it being less prone to landslides and the existence of the twin cities of Santo Tomas-Tanauan. I am less concerned about jogs as Philippine highways, whether we like it or not, do feature a sizeable number of jogs. I will cease from making edits in the concerned area for now but I will open a community discussion about the trunk network south of Dasmariñas in the next few days.
about 4 years ago | Ok thanks!
about 4 years ago | (Ah, no need for personal attacks. British spellings are the norm in Australia, and you didn't ask where I'm from.) Anyway, the route via Talisay and Tanauan (route 421) may be fitting to be trunk if you insist on downgrading Diokno Hwy, since Tanauan is another major city. The winding route is irrelevant to its status as trunk. The twin cities of Santo Tomas-Tanauan have a combined population of just over 410,000. This proposed trunk network could traverse Dasmariñas-Tanauan-Batangas City.
about 4 years ago | It is inevitable that higher population densities lead to denser trunk and primary networks. Both Dasmariñas and Batangas City are major cities, and it's only fitting that the road between them reflects that fact. Both Batangas and Cavite already have developed primary and secondary highways, and i'll insist that this remain trunk. The Cavite conurbation being a Manila sprawl is partly true. However, the continuous urbanisation, industrialisation and commercialisation in Dasmariñas, as well as it being an education and healthcare hub already makes it comparable to other regional cities like Lucena, Urdaneta, and Cabanatuan rather than a mere suburb of Manila. I'd consider Bacoor to be a Manila suburb, but definitely not Dasmariñas. Plus Silang's status as a municipality is more of a political one, and could as well be considered a suburb of either/both Dasmariñas and/or Tagaytay. I insist that thjs entire route remain designated a trunk highway, and exceptions, if any, be made from the classification guidelines for this particular route.
| 115679900 | about 4 years ago | Nevertheless, it is proper to designate this route via Diokno Hwy as trunk as it completes the trunk network of the Cavite conurbation to Batangas City. There are other factors as to why Diokno should be designated a trunk highway:
I believe that due to the above-mentioned factors, and most importantly being the main through route from the Cavite conurbation to Batangas City, this entire route should remain a trunk highway, and exceptions, if any, be made from the classification guidelines for this particular route. |
about 4 years ago | Ok, understandable, Halsema's road quality may not be in top shape to be a trunk anyway. Since we're in the question of trunks, should the Zambales Highway (306) be downgraded to primary? The only two cities between them are Olongapo and Dagupan. Iba, despite being a capital town is a fairly small town. Most travellers from Olongapo go via the Tarlac route which is both shorter by road distance and faster by travel time. Also, there is a noticeable lack of primaries in Zambales.
about 4 years ago | Manila to Dasmariñas also has numerous route changes: 61, 194, 62, and 419. The most obvious jog being at Parañaque from Roxas Blvd to Quirino Ave via NAIA road. Anyway, on Diokno being landslide-prone, same is true for the other roads I mentioned, and the Diokno Hwy area is fairly rural as well–so not much difference with other landslide-prone trunks–compared to the rest of Cavite/Batangas. Plus, Diokno Hwy has been rehabilitated and has a better road quality than most other trunks of similar characteristics.
about 4 years ago | Just noticed that the Urdaneta-Baguio route has one route change as well, 2 to 54. The route number from Dasmariñas to Batangas City changes twice only because of the route number change at the Dasma-Silang border: 419 then 410.
about 4 years ago | Also, I can confirm that from the poblacions of either Imus or Bacoor, Aguinaldo via Diokno and 436 is still BOTH the quickest toll-free route by travel time and the shortest toll-free route by road distance to Batangas City.
about 4 years ago | The jogs aren't a significant factor as jogs do exist in the Urdaneta-San Jose route (2 then 56), Tarlac-Dagupan route (55 makes a right at Camiling), Tarlac City-Cabanatuan route, and even your proposed Baguio-Tabuk/Tuguegarao route via 110 and 51. There is also a jog to purposely form a network from Quirino Ave to Roxas Blvd in Parañaque. Also, Tagaytay-Nasugbu Road and Diokno Hwy are both components of 410 and should be considered one highway, as much as 55 is from Tarlac to Camiling, numerous jogs in AH26/Maharlika, and the Olongapo-Gapan Road (route 3).
about 4 years ago | Andaya Highway in Bicol, AH26/Maharlika near the border of Nueva Ecija and Nueva Vizcaya, and as mentioned Kennon are all landslide prone highways, but that shouldn't prevent them from being classified trunks. Also, unlike Kennon, Diokno Highway is NOT limited to light vehicles as heavy trucks are known to traverse this route. I'm not sure how RA 6142 is relevant here. Having one primary between Lipa and Santa Teresita shouldn't be a big factor as most cities in Ilocos, Isabela, and Bicol aren't even connected by primaries, but only a single trunk. Having one primary in Lipa-Santa Teresita is better than having none as in the cases in the aforementioned regions.
