I bought my first gps device

Posted by Sunng on 3 December 2010 in English.

I am so glad that today I bought my first gps logger (holux m1000c) and I can map free maps from now on!

Also I should say, I am linux user, I found gpsbabel a great useful tool to transfer data from device to disk. Holux m1000c uses a mtk chip so I use this command to transfer and convert data, hope it's useful to you:

gpsbabel -t -i m241 -f /dev/ttyACM0 -o gpx -F my_track.gpx

In which, /dev/ttyACM0 is the usb device. M1000c also supports bluetooth and the command is similar.

It's nice to be a free cartographer. Is there any mailing list to join?

Be advised to check information about the legality of mapping activities in China. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/China#Legality as a starter.
