Changeset When Comment

Hello,
What source did you use for this edit? The imagery_used would suggest
http://a.tiles.mapbox.com/v3/geoeye.map-0zmhzttc/19/437583/270993.png , but that just gives a "Classic styles are no longer supported" message for me. Another mapper has removed the building you added here because its not visible on any imagery available to OpenStreetMap.

Andy

Hello JoannaD27 and welcome to OpenStreetMap!
Please make sure that, in addition to any hashtags, that you also use good changeset comments that explain to other mappers what changes you are making. See osm.wiki/Good_changeset_comments

Hello,
way/943313152 doesn't seem to match the underlying imagery at all.

Hello,
way/943304632 isn't very clear on the imagery - but there is something there. However, its likely to be rectangular - make sure that you square rectangular buildings with "Q" in the editor.

Andy

Hello ACTjignaspa,

Please always use meaningful changeset comments. Doesn't just use gibberish hashtags such as "#hotosm-project-10182 #missingmaps #indonesia #redcross #climatechange ", as you did here.
See osm.wiki/Good_changeset_comments for more information.

Andy

Hello MinhK and welcome to OpenStreetMap!
You appear to have signed up just to make this one political edit. To be clear, the rules that OpenStreetMap uses for disputed areas can be found at https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/w/images/d/d8/DisputedTerritoriesInformation.pdf . What any particular government claims is less relevant than who is currently there at the moment. In this case, I don't think that nyone would argue that Woody Island
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woody_Island_(South_China_Sea) has been under Chinese control for some considerable time.
If you've got any further questions about this please ask.
Best Regards,
Andy, from OSM's Data Working Group.

Hi Ralf,
If I do a revert it'll not touch anything that other people have edited since, so that shouldn't be the problem. I won't do anything immediately, though. I've also asked on talk-za: https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-za/2021-May/001295.html .

Andy

Hello Nkosinathi Chawana, hello rab,
Andy from OpenStreetMap's Data Working Group here.
Unfortunately, it looks like the way that all these sections of road have got merged together has created a major problem. We're trying to figure out the best way to resolve it.
1) One possibility is to fix everything manually, but as there are over 1000 changesets to look at, that's a lot of work (and more than we would be able to do).
2) Another option is to revert everything and look at what, if anything, has been lost. Some manual work would also be needed to look at things that have changed since these edits.
3) A third option would be like (2) but starting at a later date.
What do people think would be the best way forward?
Best Regards,
Andy

Hello,
If "phone has been removed and replaced with defibrillator" then surely
node/5170333539 shouldn't be an "amenity=telephone" any more, should it?
Cheers,
Andy

Why have you changed the name of node/5445022407 from an Armenian name to an Azeri one here? http://osm.mapki.com/history/node.php?id=5445022407 . Given the location is in Armenia, are you suggesting that the local language here is Azeri?

Thanks for fixing my typo!

Hi,
If anything needs to be reverted, please drop the DWG an email.

Hello,
Did you discuss this mechanical edit anywhere?
Discussing this like this is a good idea for at least two reasons:
(a) seeing if anyone has a good reason to object
(b) giving a warning to people who are processing existing data that it's going to change.
I fall into category (b) https://github.com/SomeoneElseOSM/SomeoneElse-style/blob/0b84656b66b14b55a9b982e2a7386b51bb3de474/style.lua#L6315 hence the reason I'm complaining here.
Letting people know when you're going to make changes like this is just basic politeness.
Cheers,
Andy

Hello,
There are a couple of possible problems with that source. One is that we don't know the licence associated with that map. The other is that the languages used in the placenames on it may not match local usage, and that's typically what language name tags should be in - see https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/w/images/d/d8/DisputedTerritoriesInformation.pdf for more details.
Before doing any other mapping can you make sure that you post details about the licence for the map that you are copying from, and also explain how the names that you are using match the rules in the "Disputed Territories" document?
Best Regards,
Andy

My guess is that "Q" is an attempt to square buildings? Thats what I've assumed at changeset/104455659 . Unfortunately there are 1576 of them now...

104455659

Hello ciaraford and welcome to OpenStreetMap!
I notice that you've created a lot of buildings named "Q" here. I think that there's been a bit of a miscommunication - perhaps someone has suggested that you "press Q [in the iD editor] to make sure that buildings are rectangular" (Q stands for "square"). I don't think that they meant "give each building the name Q".
If you want to find all the buildings that you've named "Q" you can use this query: https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/17bl .

Andy

Thanks for fixing this. I'm currently tidying up the rest of the "mapping not based on reality" that this user contributed.
