Changeset When Comment

For info, I suspect that the problem here was https://github.com/openstreetmap/iD/issues/1795 .

@pyrog also (in case aseerel4c26's comment above wasn't clear) look at the history of node node/1954431108/history . You added the defibrillator at that node; it wasn't there before.

27550818 about 11 years ago

@pyrog changeset/27515219 and changeset/27522772 were reverted yesterday because you didn't discuss them first. I explained on the latter one one of the reasons why it's important that people know that changes are being made, so that they know to update their maps. In the case of emergency equipment such as a defibrillator, it's even more important - this is life-saving equipment.

What sort of "byway" is way/317796829/history signed as (confusingly there are 2 - "Byway Open To All Traffic" (which would normally allow cars) and "Restricted Byway" (which doesn't allow motor vehicles but does allow e.g. a coach and horses).

Oh - and welcome to OpenStreetMap! We need all the local mappers we can get :-)

True - it's important to make sure that any messages aren't overly critical (especially to new users). I while ago I put some thoughts down here osm.wiki/User:SomeoneElse/new_mapper_messages - but it's difficult to get right.

Is the oneway through the rest area at way/317480755 the right way around? Indonesia's a drive-on-the-left country (as you can see from the nearby motorway) yet the oneway direction on the rest area service roads seem to suggest drive-on-the-right.

Have you got any evidence that the name-most-used-on-the-ground for node/2187224287/history is Растелица rather than Restelicë ? Given the geography (nestled in the corner of Kosovo near the Albania and Macedonia borders) this seems unlikely.

Hi - way/316375333 is missing a highway tag I think? Also way/316375360 ?

27495733 about 11 years ago

Hi,
I noticed that you changed node/3221789040/history from "highway=gate" to "barrier=gate". Did you aso mention it to the person who mapped it in the first place? If they don't know that people now use "barrier=gate" instead of "highway=gate", they may add more...

Best Regards,
Andy

@pyrog for info, node/1292129589/history has already had a mechanical edit to "entrance" reverted by the data working group a couple of years ago. Part of the changeset comment made at that time - says "please note that 'deprecated' does not mean we want you to auto-edit world-wide". Did you not see this when you examined the objects that you changed?

27522772 about 11 years ago

This looks suspiciously like an undiscussed mechanical edit. See osm.wiki/Mechanical_Edit_Policy for what should happen before any mechanical edits take place. The most important step is "discuss" - can you point me to where, if anywhere, this happened?

Perhaps it's worth reiterating why the mechanical edit policy and the requirement to discuss exists. Even if, in a particular example, "shop=yes" is more correct than a previous "amenity=shop".

One reason is that the mappers using the previous version won't know that a tag is "wrong" unless you tell them - they'll just continue adding more "amenity=shop" to the database. Any data consumer that is looking for generic shops will need to look for both "amenity=shop" (since new ones will still be added) and "shop=yes", so their work is still the same. The OSM database is slightly larger, so it's a little harder to manage for everyone. So the net effect is that everyone has to work a little harder, and you've wasted your time.

Another reason is that there might be people actually looking for "amenity=shop" in the database (it's entirely possible; they may know the context in which they were added and you may not). If they're rendering these they will be surprised when they disappear from their map. If the mechanical edit had been discussed first, they'd know that they now need to look for "shop=yes" and wouldn't have a nasty surprise.

Best Regards,
Andy Townsend (on behalf of the OSM data working group)

Hello and welcome to OpenStreetMap! I see you've added lots of roads to the southeast of Nagpur that weren't there before. One thing that you might need to check though is that roads that join in reality do actually join in OSM. For example, way/314579457 isn't currently joined to way/314578039 . way/314579460 also doesn't join at the south end either.

Hello - you've added a very short motorway to a village in Turkey way/316352364 . If you want to add things to OpenStreetMap as a test, please don't use the live server. There's a copy of everything (apart from the live data) over at http://api06.dev.openstreetmap.org/ - you can test things out there. Alternatively, you might find http://opengeofiction.net/about useful. I'm guessing that the restaurant and hospital are also not in a small village in turkey? In the case of the hospital, there's a real risk that someone might think there's a real hospital here and take a real person here for treatment.

Also, way/44020503#map=18/53.21426/-1.20754&layers=Q seems to have been copied from some inaccurate old map without too much consideration. The feature's clearly visible on the ground as way/126493276 et al - see the underlying GPS traces - and it's not where you've drawn this.

27418130 about 11 years ago

The current path of way/316928830 seems unlikely based on both the Bing imagery and OS_OpenData_StreetView.

27408384 about 11 years ago

Something's also gone wrong with way/316853937 (it's not a closed way, and surely also not a recreation ground)

27408384 about 11 years ago

What evidence do you have for way/316853942 being a recreation ground? As part of a former power station, it seems unlikely!

27389082 about 11 years ago

What evidence do you have that way/316741487 has the tracks still in place? The Bing imagery suggests "abandoned" rather than "disused".

27389057 about 11 years ago

As also mentioned in note/283774 , it's somewhat unlikely that way/316740087 is landuse=railway, as I suspect that there is no longer a railway here. Did you actually go and have a look, or are you just relying on the out-of-date Bing imagery?

27432053 about 11 years ago

way/317012247 seems to have no tags. What were you trying to add it as?
