Spam diary entries

Posted by Sam Wilson on 1 May 2019 in English.

Gosh, the spammers are going for it at the moment on the OSM diaries. :-(

Thank you to everyone who’s handling the deleting of it!

Unfortunately, my feed reader sucks all the bogus entries in before they’re deleted, so I’ve got hundreds of Chinese spam posts (marked as Bengali for some reason), drowning out the interesting stuff. I’d switch to just the English feed, but am getting things via https://blogs.openstreetmap.org/atom.xml so there’s no option for that, and I don’t want to miss the other syndicated blog posts.

Maybe I should just head outside with a GPS… :-)

The bogus entries come in overnight (UK time) and get deleted in the morning UK time, so if you can set the refresh rate on your RSS reader accordingly, you should miss out on the spam wave.

That’s a good idea Richard, I’ll try.

Unfortunately, I can’t set custom refresh rate in my RSS reader so I had to delete this feed from my reader. It’s terrible big amount of useless entries. To find this post I had to list more than 80 pages back :-O

Maybe will be useful to not automatically publish entries of new users, but hide them until admin review them. At least until this troll will move to another server.
