Worcester

Posted by Richard on 24 February 2008 in English.

Yesterday, Steve Chilton, Tom Higgy and I met up for a quick mapping blast around Worcester - one of the few cities in England to have very little OSM coverage.

I tackled the area west of the river, where I'd previously done an afternoon's mapping. It's now mostly complete save for the St John's and Rushwick areas. (Steve worked on the Barbourne area and Tom on the Diglis area, I think.)

And Steve managed to find a table under an out-of-copyright map in the Plough!

Still lots to do in the city, and I'll certainly return to finish off the west side at least, but it's now in a much healthier state than it was before the weekend.

Will try to do my edits tonight, certainly before next planet dump on Wed. I got a trace of the A38 out to the B&B at end of day and some more minor road traces on my way to Stratford. Found "Cartographical Surveys Ltd" that I came across - on the web at: http://www.tsa-uk.org.uk/Cartographical%20Surveys%20Ltd.htm. Click the link to go to a truly horrendously old-fashioned website, with suitably poor location map.

Noticed you filled in a few gaps I'd left so thanks for those.

I quite enjoyed it despite the hills. Let me know when you're heading back to do some mapping and I'll try and join you.

Looking great now!

I thought I'd have a go at filling in some of the city centre, based on many GPS tracks from the past, memory and an out-of-copyright map... will take a notebook next time Anna and I go for a pint there and take down a few more street names.

When you go - can you resolve two main road queries? What is status of Croft Rd/Castle St? I went along it but didn't note signs. Is it red or green (rest are green). Also status of A38 in centre? Logically it can't just drop off at Sansome St.
