OpenStreetMap

First and last(?) diary entry

Posted by Detectist on 21 July 2011 in English.

Now that it is almost the 12th hour I have decided on whether to accept or decline the new licance and contributor terms in relation to my contributions to OSM to date.

I had been an active mapper, avid reader but not an active contributor on the forums. Apart from occasional fixing of down/up ramp direction and other little bits and pieces all of my submissions (direct or through a mate) have been through GPS survey. After, again (for the nth time) considering all the opinions/statements from people on both sides and in-between of the arguments I am going to accept the licence/CTs of OSM for submitted work.

I will now only contribute to an OSM fork. 2 bob each way I suppose but I see various dimensions of pluses and minuses in all camps. I can actually feel the frustration and anger from all camps but I also see good people in all camps too and I think acting in good faith.

I wish all well.

Thank you for your contributions so far and for allowing them to continue in OSM. Have fun in your future mapping :)

Amen to that. I wish more people who do not like the ODBL or CT (a tricky question, so it's understandable that views differ) would reallize that accepting the ODBL before stoping contributions (or contributing to a fork) is a possible compromize. Thanks for not making your past contributions a net loss for osm.org, and good luck with the fork.
