Bike ride to Coraki
Posted by Biogenesis_ on 11 July 2009 in English (English). Last updated on 12 July 2009.Today I did 78.3km on the pushbike cycling to Coraki and back. I surveyed as much road as was practical but ended up having to change my planned route as a road marked as Tertiary on Google Maps ended up being unsealed.
Coraki now has a few streets and all the major roads in/out mapped. I took a swing down the main drag and collected all the shop POIs too. There's still lots of residential streets to go though. I'd estimate the street completion to be ~30-40%.
While JOSM was oped I also traced a few rivers around the place. Evans Head didn't have a full riverbank trace so I drew that in from Landsat. The coastline still looks very rough but the ABS boundary is quite good so I'll ignore that for the time being.
The road changeset can be viewed here.
The rivers changeset can be viewed here.
They're both fairly large areas so the changeset viewer may not work. YMMV.
Edit: Oh, I also left my sunglasses in Coraki. *sigh*, at least they were only from Bunnings.

I see you traced some rivers along some post code boundaries. Where the post code looks like it follows the river I generally just add the waterway and name tags to the postcode way. You can split the administrative boundary at any points where it departs from the waterway course

Yeah, I tend to do that. At least I have recently, which one were you looking at? The rivers through Lismore were traced about 18 months ago, long before the ABS import, and need to be re-done.

Hi, good to see that you have extended the river banks at Evans Head. I was going to Evans Head for the weekend in a couple of weeks and had intended to do more of the river banks but now I will have more time for fishing. Will do a few more roads in the area by GPS.

Good to hear I'm not alone up here :). Evans head streets are ~50% done but it wouldn't be more than an hours driving/cycling to finish them off. Have fun up there! Feel free to adjust the riverbanks as they were traced off un-geolocated landsat imagery.

It was the Wilsons and Richmond rivers. There are still quite a few like that around my area that I need to consider aligning to a PC boundary. I love it when I find a boundary that aligns to a long river. The Avoca was like that. Good to hear you are doing a lot of long distance mapping on the bike. I'm tending to spend more time mapping country areas in the car lately, just using the bike on suburban areas.
