OpenStreetMap Community Form

Posted by 7rst1 on 12 July 2019 in English.

Recently the OSM group over at Telegram crafted a form for OSM editors with the goal of knowing our community a little better. This form questions who you are, how you work and if you have any feedback to any OSM services. Please share this so we can reach every type of mapper and get the whole picture! :)

The form is available here

The data will be published here 11th August, 2019, with indefinitive graphs and sneak peaks on Telegram every week till then. Username and date of submissions will not be connected with individual answers in the final results.

You can join the OSM Telegram group to stay up to date!

You can join the OSM Telegram group to stay up to date!

How do I do this (assuming I don’t have a phone number that I want to provide) and how does OSM’s Telegram group differ from the other entries at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Contact_channels ?

This is not an official form and will therefore not be shared on all platforms used by OSM users. The weekly graphs will initially not be posted on anything else than Telegram, but the final data will be shared here and will of course include the previously published data, so you won’t miss anything by not joining the Telegram group. :)

Assuming I did want to join the Telegram group, how would I do that?

I am afraid you must provide a phone number to join Telegram, though Telegram is considered a safe service and is partly built for privacy. You can completely turn of sharing your phone number with Telegram contacts in the Telegram settings.

If you do have a phone number to use, you can download one of the clients, register an account and join the group: @OpenStreetMapOrg

Hi Syver,

good Idea, updating outdated statistics on the community. The linked dokument is a google-doc though. So my answers will be available to google, right?

Best

We couldn’t find a service as convenient as Google Form. It is not ideal, but it works well. The form is open so that you don’t have to log into Google to answer it, and almost all of the questions are optional, so you can share as little as you please :)
