It seems, JOSM is not "stabile"

Posted by liutas4x4 on 22 August 2011 in English.

From late midnight till now:

Communication with OSM server "http;//api.openstreetmap.org/api/0.6/" timed out. Please retry later.

I got it after series of "this is a program bug, report it!".
And it is not "timed out" - message appears instantly.

Cache cleared, changesets closed, JOSM version 4279.

Too bad to be good...

http;//api.openstreetmap.org/api/0.6/
http; <- there shouldn't be a ';'
If that was a typo it may be that the api.openstreetmap.org server was just down for a moment.

That comment didn't seem to be formatted very well...
The problem may be that there is a ';' instead of a ':' in the url.

Sorry, but answer is no: ";" symbol is only there, not in JOSM. And setting to default URL did not help also.
For the first time I use JOSM as stand-alone. It works just fine for 5-6 hours. And goes to bugs.

JOSM server is not down. Going to "old data layer - forest only" downloads everything, but yes, old (about month-two ago), and forest only.
Evem more: I does an experiment. While changing editing to "remote", through call from OSM main page - I get a download of entire area.
But, after what - exactly the same. Did not any response my actions, even "update data" (from server) goes to message, shown in my first post.

If you get "this is a program bug, report it!" you cannot expect JOSM to work properly afterwards. It would be nice if you could to follow that link and report the bug (can be done anonymously).

Done, already done. Many times reported. Even I had opinion, what JOSM support takes "counterbugreporting" block on me :)

Sorry, I don't understand your comment completely. We are not giving professional support, like you would expect from a commercial company. It's a very small team that cares for development, releases, bug fixes and everything else, so don't be too hard on us...

Can you link the bug report(s)?

bastik,

I really appreciate any help, but did not "professional support".
I am pushed to drop JOSM, because problem persists: OMS API rejecting any calls from my JOSM.

Found no ticket with this topic on http://josm.openstreetmap.de. Report it there, if you want to make JOSM better. Just grumbling, doesn't really help anyone...

OK, I will report @ place you show me too. Before, I pushed "report bug" button every time it appear in program window. :)

I Have to say JOSM has been rock solid for me for the last two years ( Win xp / 7 ) with no issues at all and very hard to fault. It is the most popular OSM application editor with a large user base. Most of the really obvious problems have been fixed long ago.
Try to think what else might be the problem ( memory / ISP etc ) - My startup is as below - giving JOSM 1 Meg memory which is important especially with Bing - you will note I am using the most recent version and Java 6/26

C:\Windows\System32\java.exe -jar -Xmx1024M "C:\Software\Josm\josm4223.jar"

Note my other posting about uploading in chunks rather than one go in the Advanced tab when you go to Upload

Many thanks, bri g

I changed my shortcut your's (with minor correction for my paths) amd... it work and redraw faster.
You see, I has no one issue later when this post published.

And am about signing agreement : JOSM is quit stable app.
What I miss really - customization of mouse's functions. In many (the best) graphic apps I use for many years there are conventional meaning of, for ex., pushing on right rodent's ear - contest, while moving a view is through left button, with modifier key (command/ctrl).
But it is mine, and it is not an issue.

Thank you.
