Extending to JOSM

Posted by ika-chan! UK-USA on 3 April 2013 in English.

After over 1,000 changesets, I have begun using JOSM - one of my first uses for this program is to correctly order all the bus and railway routes. That would please the OSM Inspector, which reports that many of the London routes are not ordered correctly…

Hold on a minute, that data hasn’t been updated since 27 February 2013. What is going on?

There’s no “correctly” in this case. Route relations do not have to be ordered. You can do it if you like, but it doesn’t achieve anything (any smart client will order the relations if it needs to) and you can’t expect newbies to keep them ordered.

Although there may be no technical reason for ordering them, it does make them a bit easier to work with. I wouldn’t put a lot of effort into ordering them manually though, there is the ‘sort’ button in the relation order to do it automatically, but I don’t know if I would edit the relations just to change the order. Definitely worth doing when you do make some other change to the route, however.

Regarding OSMI: There were some server problems apparently, but it should now begin to work again according to a Forum post by Frederik (in German).

You’ll also find that bus route relations in London are constantly becoming out of date because of small changes, e.g. see this:
