Águas Claras e Brasília, Distrito Federal, Brazil
Posted by espinafre on 11 November 2010 in English.I signed into OpenStreetMap a few days ago, and found it to be a marvelous project. I'm starting to contribute by increasing the details of the maps of my surrounding area, Águas Claras and Brasília, the Brazilian capital, and adding some suburbs in areas that either I can go with my GPS receiver or that I know very well.
I'd like to edit with Merkaartor, but I cannot download the Yahoo background imagery; I don't know if it's a limitation on the app or if I'm doing something wrong. I don't quite like JOSM, as it is not too fast on my machine, so, for the time being, I'm going to use Potlatch and, as my skills improve, I'll make some more fine-grained mapping with Merkaartor.
What is the correct way of making bridges with Potlatch? Can I just put a stretch of road, mark it with bridge=yes and drag it over the main road?

Sometimes Yahoo! background imagery on Merkaartor make a very long time to appear.
I've noticed it doesn't like to be moved when it was still loading, so after a move you have to wait for the background to appear.
Sometimes it is totally screwed so you have to reinit it : right click on the Yahoo!(WMS) layer and select Yahoo!(WMS) from the popup menu.
When tagging a bridge on a road you have to split the way (ALT-S with Merkaartor, the scisors with Potlatch).
A road -------- (1 way)
become --o--o-- (3 way, only the way in the middle receive bridge=yes)

Bem vindo espinafre, eu moro na Ceilândia, editei algumas ruas do Setor O, usando as imagens do Yahoo. Eu prefiro usa o JOSM como editor. Espero que vc use seu GPS por toda a Brasília e tb nas cidades satélites e faça o upload dos tracks aqui, para possamos mapear o DF inteiro, pois usando as images do Yahoo como base é meio chato, pois as imagens são antigas.

Teste18, allow me to continue the talk in English, so others (lezurdis, I'm looking to you :) )can understand. I followed lezurdis' hint about the bridges/viaduct, and I'm using the SVN snapshot of JOSM, as teste18 hinted. It's easier to use than Merkaartor... Now we've got some nice bridges (viaducts) near Águas Claras, and with JOSM I've also done some beautiful roundabouts.
Teste18, I can attest the outdatedness (if that's even a word) of Yahoo imagery, they were made before we had half of Águas Claras :)
Thank for your help, we'll keep improving the DF map.
