FIX THE MAP

Posted by SimonPoole on 1 May 2014 in English.

It seems, even though it has been available for quite a while, that the fixthemap page on openstreetmap.org is still not particularly well known. If you have an OSM based project and you don’t want to create your own page for this purpose (as for example Mapbox has done now too) please provide a link to the page with a suitable text. You can provide coordinates with the URL (best probably the center of the map the user is viewing) and if the user chooses to add a note it will be positioned correctly.

An example of how to do this is for example the SOSM run osm.ch site: http://www.osm.ch/#13/47.2095/8.5237

I’ve noticed this page doesn’t detect if the user’s already logged in: Start Mapping button still points to http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/new, not to http://www.openstreetmap.org/edit. That probably needs fixing.

Well the expectation wasn’t really that it would be used as a short cut for people that are already mappers, but I agree we could simply display two buttons “Edit at current position” and “Create note at current position” and zap all the rest of the text for people that are logged in.

Ah that’s how you do it. With the old ?lat… style rather than the # style.

Thanks Simon.

Will aim to add it to the Mappa Mercia site.

I forgot that I said I was going to add this to Mappa Mercia maps. Well I’ve done it on the mapnik one now as a test. We are doing seperate pages for each map so I’ve stripped out the stuff to do with multiple layers on osm.ch but my webskills are not great so I’m not sure if I got it right. I was a bit confused by the var attribs = []; and var prefixAndAttribs = []; sections.

Any chance you could take a quick look at the page source:

Cheers, Rob
