Cartography Sticker

Posted by LR-7 on 21 July 2010 in English.

I wonder if there is already an OSM Sticker that fellow cartographers have made. I discovered on many occasions that Security Guards and Village Administration officers will easily grant you access to a restricted or exclusive village if you have a sticker on your car; Instead of asking you to leave an ID. I printed out a Google Maps (DIY) sticker before, and it was quite easy to gain entry into some of the villages.

Restricted villages? WTF?!?

I mean why should a whole village be restricted?

I have an OSM sticker on my car. I designed it myself and took the design to the local vinyl sticker shop and they did a couple for me

@!i!, in the Philippines, gated residential communities with security are often called "villages".

If the gated community requires you to leave your ID with the security personnel, tag it as access=private. (Even if you can enter through a sticker, most users cannot enter the gated communities) Also, DO NOT copy data from Google Maps and Google Mapmaker.

I DO NOT copy data from Google, OSM or Roadguide for that matter other than data I have personally collected through surveys and on site inspections. Was just thinking out loud on how I used to enter villages when I had a Google sticker made out which made it easier to actually map the place, hence I asked if an OSM sticker is in circulation :-)

This is what I would call clever :)
But of course we have ones: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Merchandise but to small for a car :/

Hi Zartbitter,
Yes, I forgot about that. It is free to register and is a very very informative and friendly GPS forum to join. Lots of info relating to all forms of equipment. Worth the effort to join. The are many members from Europe and other countries on the forum.

@LR-7 Thank you for responding to my comment.

By the way, you could encounter this problem - entering sites that may raise someone's suspicion (specifically outdoor retail strips/areas within "private property"). My suggestion is for you to make a customized ID. (Note: This problem pops up for me from time to time).
