Just wrote a half-proposal over on the wiki about cycle parking and tagging what stands are available (Sheffield, A-frame, anything really, etc.). Was thinking about putting wheelbenders down, but they're not stands; they're a bloody annoyance. Feedback on this would be much appreciated, with the URL being http://bit.ly/5PRlTK -- I had to shorten it; it was far too long.

I currently tag with bicycle_parking=sheffield and bicycle_parking=front_wheel. I've not got round to documenting these yet though. I've not distinguised between Sheffield, A-frame, or toastrack stands for my tagging.

bicycle_parking=* might be better, actually: like highway=crossing, then crossing=* and there must be others. That probably would work better.

Understand the need to tag bicycle parking - I would also ask for motorcycle parking, so perhaps a generic parking, with car / bicycle / motorcycle etc. Also I can foresee the requirement for electrical charging points to be tagged. I do live in London and motorcycle / charging points etc do exist and do require mapping.

I really do hope charging points are rendered on Mapnik; a node with what type of car/plug will work would help so much. I've heard some Westminster sockets only work with certain cars. Maybe one could build a simple OSM-based charger finder unit into new electrics. Maybe that would help with the sale of such things. Truth be told, tag as much as you think would be used; only the standard use of tags (all of one thing has the same name, otherwise using such information would be painful as you'd have to parse all varients) is what is needed.
