strange french message Explain please!

Posted by رامز on 15 January 2014 in English.

Hi

while surfing Egypt map I noticed some French message blocks as shown:

This is the first time ever I’ve seen such blocks! So this is kind of spam, Hack, or Server error?

problem

if that was server error so kindly explain why it’s exclusively in french not English and why error message looks not complete “there is … at the end?”

It is a message to say the map tile is not (yet) available. The server which renders the map for the Humanitarian style is likely overloaded. OpenStreetMap has had a large traffic increase over the last few days. Server resources are under pressure.

The message is complete, it translates to “I’m overloaded and can’t provide your image immediately. Comme back later, it should be ready…” and is displayed when the rendering server can’t keep up with current demand.

It’s normally quite rare to see that replacement image, so I don’t think that it has been made translatable.

You are viewing the humanitarian map layer, which happens to be rendered on servers from osm France, so that message is in French. Other layers might use a different error image, for example the opencyclemap layer displays its logo with a “more osm comming soon” message.

thanks for reply :) I was kinda scared that OSM has been hacked or something.

I guess now it’s clear to me but for everyone..hmm, you know not all can read french so I think it would be better in English or for more better to show as an avatar like a sad face titled “Server busy, Please come back soon”

anyway…. thanks @Firefishy thanks @Vincent de Phily

Good point. I will forward your request to the administrators of the humanitarian map tiles.
