Hello dannykath,

On several occasions in the past people have requested that you keep changeset areas to a sensible size, and use meaningful comments. Recent examples include http://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/39069408 , http://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/39105735 and http://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/40745669 . Despite being repeatedly asked, you are still doing this - http://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/40907374 - both multi-continental changeset areas and gibberish changeset comments.

You will therefore be blocked from editing OpenStreetMap for a short time.

OpenStreetMap is a collaborative project. We need to work together if we are to create the best map. This means that we all need to work together as a community - we can’t view OSM simply as a “dataset” and try and reduce QA-site detected errors like some kind of video game.

For example, in http://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/31638424 you refer to https://github.com/mapbox/mapping/issues/106 but this completely misses the point that OpenStreetMap is a representation (often incomplete) of the real world, created by human beings, some of whom may be new mappers and may need help to understand what they need to do. In areas where there are active local mappers edits such as yours dilute the local knowledge that is available; in areas where there aren’t they hide the problems that do exist from QA sites and damage the map as a result. If you find a problem in OpenStreetMap that needs fixing, please ask yourself “what is the best way to fix the root cause of this problem”; don’t just fix the symptom and move on.

If you have any questions you can contact the Data Working Group via data@osmfoundation.org .

Best Regards,

Andy Townsend (SomeoneElse) on behalf of OSM’s Data Working Group.
