Hello Dev_Kittenz,
Andy from OSM’s Data Working Group here. We’ve received a complaint that you’ve been using “made up names” for things. This echoes a number of comments that people have left on your changesets at http://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-discussion-comments?uid=11901212 .
On changeset/111981567 I explained why an out of date English name for somewhere should not be used as the current English name (and why it might be quite offensive to do that in some cases). Other people have asked you on e.g. changeset/113858320 to not make up names for places that in reality have no English name.
On relation/8228025/history you’ve actually made up a name for Keskuskuja and set that as both the “name” and the “name:en” tags. For the avoidance of doubt this isn’t even a translation (my rough Finnish has “Keskus” as meaning “Centre”, so perhaps “Central Place” or “Central Square” would be a translation). Of course, having a translated name as name:en would also be wrong. If a place does not have an English name, do not make one up. See osm.wiki/Names#Name_is_the_name_only for more details on this. We’ll undo any obvious problem changes that are left.
I’ve sent this message as one that you have to read before continuing to edit. You’ll be able to continue immediately afterwards, but please - no more made-up names. If you’ve got any questions you can email us at data@osmfoundation.org .
Best Regards,
Andy Townsend, on behalf of OSM’s Data Working Group.
