Hello RR80,

Over the last month or so you’ve embarked on a large series of changesets changing road classifications. Sometimes, like in osm.org/changeset/178831301 the change was obfuscated being a changeset comment such as “Road alignment”. No source was given.

In the case of the examples around Leighton Reservoir and Wath I know from on-the-ground experience that (a) the classifications were reasonable (we can always argue about unclassified vs tertiary, but I think that the previous state made most sense here) and (b) that the alignments were pretty good, using OSMUK’s cadastral parcels as well as OS Opendata to help align imagery and GPS traces.

In https://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-discussion-comments?uid=2261940 I can see that a number of people have raised these issues with you, mostly in their own local areas. In some cases (e.g. osm.org/changeset/179656162 ) you did reply, said you got it wrong but didn’t correct your errors and continued making the same changes elsewhere.

I’ve reverted these classification changes back to the start of February, except where other users have edited since. If you would like to make a case for them please discuss each one in the UK forum https://community.openstreetmap.org/c/communities/uk/86 so that they can be discussed on a case by case basis.

A relatively large revert like this is unusual, but in this case justified because:

  • where I am familiar with the area, I believe that your changes are incorrect
  • other people believe that your changes are incorrect and have told you so
  • you have ignored other people’s concerns.

I’ve added this block as a “message you have to read before continuing to edit”. If you ignore it and carry on making the same sorts changes without discussion a longer block will be imposed.

If you have any questions please email data@openstreetmap.org with a subject line of “[Ticket#2026031310000841] RR80”.

Best Regards,

Andy Townsend, on behalf of OSM’s DAta Working Group
