Hallo again, I have had a look at the preserved railway at Chinnor on Osmand. The correct line symbol for a preserved line appears at maximum zoom and the next 3 layers out then vanishes. What can then be seen is more like the absence of railway. The gates, level crossings, surrounding woodland features, and so on but not the line of the track. That looks to me as if Osmand doesn't give the same prominence to all railways.

Hallo, I was using Osmand on my phone in the woods on either side of the Strathspey Railway. The railway track only showed on one layer of Osmand (I forget which layer). On all the other layers the rail track was invisible but the paths on either side of the railway did show. When I got home I had a look at the area using the iD Edit. The Strathspey line was tagged as “preserved”. ID Edit did not present that as a choice. I guessed that that was the cause of the absence on Osmand, and changed it to just “rail”. I was correct, in that with the latest Osmand update the Strathspey line reappeared on all layers. I am troubled by this solution because “preserved” is an accurate description of the Strathspey line and “preserved” is still presented as a choice on osm.wiki/Map_Features#Railway , it should work. This morning I read the comments on the page railway=preserved and think that that might be at the root of the Osmand problem. Is Osmand perhaps looking for “railway:preserved=yes” ? I hope that this helps. Regards. |

Hallo, The history of this section, and the next section up to the A719 main road, is it was a gravel surfaced farm track. The farm is now derelict, a couple of cottages are still occupied. The cycle development charity "Sustrans" took over the track as part of NCR7 and laid an asphalt surface on it and fitted 2 meter high barriers with key coded retractable bollards to control motor vehicle access. Drivers with permission can get through (and do use it) , otherwise it is pedestrians, horses and cyclists. Weirdly, there is a section of cycle path 100 meters east of this bit, parallel with Greenan Road which is signposted as "cyclists only, no pedestrians or vehicles" for about 200 meters, although it is used almost exclusively by dog walkers. Regards.

Hallo, I am using the drop down menu on the ID editor. It reads "access all=no" I struggled to find the way to to turn it back to "yes" (it was clicking and back tabbing). This probably isn't the only cycle path I have treated like this. I will hunt through what I have done recently and check. Any tips

Right, I've given that a go using the Potlach editor.

I am using ID editor which presents me with simple choices. I select "yes" for foot, bike and horse and "permissive" for motor vehicles, which makes All "no". What is actually there on the ground is about 50 meters of bus lane with an electronically operated bollard (not a gate) in the middle of the road which retracts into the ground to allow only the passage of motor vehicles equipped with the transponder key. I live in the area. The locals call it the "Bus Gate".
