| 101416858 | Hi, I have three sources that there are visible ruins: (1) https://www.academia.edu/30540421/McKinny_C._2016_Dissertation_-_A_Historical_Geography_of_the_Administrative_Division_of_Judah_Bar_Ilan_University (page 268) says: "a large (55x100m) casemate fortress from the Iron II (no sub-periods given, but presumably IIB-C) was partially excavated at the site along with a small nearby settlement (Baruch 1997b; Weiss et al. 2004:site 3/241; Greenberg and Keinan 2009:site 4179)." (2) https://amudanan.co.il/w/P535478 describes the site and has a close-up photo (via Google Translate): "A large fortress from the Israeli period - the Iron Age. Instead of arches and remains of walls that have been preserved to a height of up to a meter and a half, over a very large area. On the southeast side of the fort there are the remains of an entrance gate east of the main street of the compound." (3) https://www.govmap.gov.il/?c=208780.21,622306.95&z=11&b=17&lang=en shows the outline of the excavated section (a "rectangular fort excavated... [with] a large central courtyard surrounded by rooms," according to https://books.google.com/books/content?id=FE0QAQAAIAAJ&pg=PA150&img=1&pgis=1&dq=%22and+Khirbet+el-Id+near+Wadi+Fukin%22&sig=ACfU3U0pU2ZOBVssje3hB9O1-Ug4iYAlZg&edge=0). However, I haven't been there in person, so if there aren't actual ruins (or if the outline doesn't match their extent), I'm happy to see changes. |
