Hi Mateusz

I just pulled up the shapefile from the website, it hasn't been changed since 2005 according to the metadata

Yes, the MLI database is basically unchanged since 2011

I'm not sure if it was discussed on the imports list. I did not initiate the work and the person who did is no longer active. Around about that time there were a bunch of overenthusiastic imports in Canada that didn't, we found out later, strictly follow procedure. Those have largely remained since they do not contaminate the data, but were just uploaded improperly

It was documented on the wiki at
osm.wiki/w/index.php?title=Import/Catalogue&diff=531512&oldid=526628

Amazingly, including that nonsensical attribution was a term of the license at the time. The MLA imports were discussed on the talk-ca mailing list, and there were no concerns.

The current license (https://mli2.gov.mb.ca/app/register/app/index.php) suggests the attribution text may not be necessary since OSM would be a derivative product, so the attribution tag could probably be removed

Thanks for this. Sylabics aren't used in the Western Arctic (as well as Cam Bay and Kugluktuk), so Latin script is the proper way to render them

Apologies, those are the tags from the original shapefile that I missed removing from those particular ways

Sounds fair, thanks!

Is there anyway we could change the default name north of the border? The name "Red River of the North" is never used in Manitoba, and its official name is just "Red River" (Rivière rouge in French).

Hi Michael

Oops, I looks like I accidentally moved a large way, so that's why it looks out of place. I fixed it and it should all be better now. Thanks for catching that.

To be clear though, this is not an import, it is a replacement of Canvec data with traced data, because there are some issues with the Canvec forest data in this particular place. It is a work in progress and will take some time, so if you check out other areas of the Whiteshell it should be obvious why I'm doing the replacement.

Yep, it's fake, I'm removing it.

Hi. Just a few comments regarding access, as a general rule illegal paths should either not be mapped or tagged access=private so, and footpaths don't need to be tagged access=no, foot=yes, as that is implied in the tag. Happy mapping!
