@nickvet419 not a lecture, just a request to clean up the sloppy editing.

Please stop tagging service roads inside railyards as allowed access=yes. We have discussed this on multiple occasions

way/1326188774#map=18/41.762592/-87.725795

No worries. I went ahead and reverted your changes. Thanks for the quick response!

Howdy, can you please tell me more about why you added a stream here? It's causing this entire area to render as a body of water. Thanks in advance

highway=path defaults to bicycles=yes which is correct. The issue here is that you've drawn a highway=path with allowed access=all in the middle of the Union Pacific railyard.

What is the purpose of mapping way/1284981684 and marking it as bikable when it's in the middle of a railyard?

I've contacted you multiple times about your sloppy editing and nothing has changed. I'd love to understand why this continues to happen and how to prevent it in the future.

Ok, that brings us back to the link in my original message – bicycles are prohibited on these informal footpaths per FPCC

Sorry, I'm specifically referring to ways like way/738895536 which were correctly classified by user alopex_ii 5 months ago.

I completely agree with the classification of the Weber Spur itself.

Interested to learn more about this changeset. Bicycles are prohibited from unofficial/unmarked trails per FPCC. https://fpdcc.com/about/rules-regulations/#trail

Additionally the pieces of trail connecting to the Weber Spur on the south side of the North Branch have been razed and no longer exists.

Hi Nick, why is the service road on the west side of Lake Shore Drive between 15th and 18th marked as allowed_access=all? It is inside the railyard and next to active tracks.

Thanks Nick, that makes sense to me. Appreciate you talking it through.

I do acknowledge that there is inconsistent information online regarding the bicycle policy. I did go down there and try to ride my bike today and a security guard flagged me down and told me to dismount and walk. For this reason I'm not sure bicycle=yes is the appropriate OSM tag.

150195609 over 1 year ago

Can you please share that information with me?

Hi Nick, I just conducted a survey and verified that there are permanent metal signs posted at every entrance to the riverwalk stating "Bicycles must be walked." I also spoke with a private security contractor who confirmed that bicycles are to be dismounted and walked through the riverwalk.

Can you please revert your changes and/or set the riverwalk paths to bicycle=dismount? Thanks so much.

Hi Nick, interested to learn more about this changeset as well. Are the "Bicycles must be walked" signs no longer physically present?

Thanks Nick. Is there anywhere else nearby that you can recall where this also might be an issue?

Updating these to Feature Type: Foot Path and Allowed Access: bicycle=not specified will fix this for us.

Hi Nick, my name is Robby and I am involved with OSM through a website called https://wandrer.earth

The goal of Wandrer is to ride a bicycle on every street in Chicago. Completion is tracked using a combination of GPS activities (via Strava) and OSM data.

The global Wandrer map pulls fresh data from OSM on a quarterly basis. We are then stuck with the data for the next three months.

The micromapping you are doing is very cool but I'm noticing lots of new ways with Feature Type: Path and Allowed Access: bicycle=yes that may be inaccurately labeled.

Looking at Street View these appear to be foot paths leading to private residences behind locked gates.

Would it be possible for you to help us fix these (and any other cases like this in the Chicago area) before the next Wandrer map update on April 28? Thanks so much and let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Kris, I'm reaching out to better understand these edits to the Weber spur.

Specifically, I'd like to understand why you chose the Edens as the dividing line for restricted access. Especially as the jersey barriers you referenced to justify this edit are located in LaBagh Woods.

If you think the entire Weber Spur should be marked off-limits I'm happy to have that discussion, but using the Edens as the demarcation point feels completely arbitrary.

Thanks for reaching out! I changed those ways from access=no to access=private and joined the Slack as well. Appreciate the feedback!
