There were some recent changes and I noticed this changeset. You've modified the trails so they don't actually match what is on the ground pretty signficantly (I have very good GPS data I use to map these). Please be mindful in the future about the accuracy of your changes! I'm going to work to roll this change back so the map is accurate to the trails. Thanks! |

I really need to get down to this area and do some actual hiking. I'll probably climb here in the next couple of months and try to work out what's up with some of these trails. Yes, the GIS data is basically what is on the maps. There were some spots in miller fork just east of this area where their gps data was quite far off. I think they are just using a single smartphone GPS capture for their mapping which isn't ideal. Also, concerning the FWD car parking, I actually just moved that to the west side of the road funny enough. The owner of the property redid that area and started charging people to park there, maybe a month ago. Thanks!! |

Admittedly, their GIS data isn't /amazing/, but so far the majority of it has matched what I've seen hiking/climbing in these areas pretty well. If you were mostly going off of strava heatmap I'll probably adjust this trail to match the GIS data I have from RRGCC. Thanks! |
| 99219134 | almost 5 years ago | There used to be this awesome tool that strava had called slide that let you use their data a little bit easier, but it's been broken for a couple of years unfortunately, hence the weird hacky method. :(
Glad you appreciate the work! I love knowing that people might have an easier time finding and figuring out trails from what I've done! |
| 99219134 | almost 5 years ago | Oh, and sometimes I'll use a pretty accurate bike GPS I have (wahoo elemnt bolt) and I'll upload the gpx from that after biking or hiking a trail. |
| 99219134 | almost 5 years ago | @VincenzoWil Multiple sources. A good chunk of the times I hike the area to get a feel for the way everything is situated. I use the OSIP 6in imagery background + strava heatmap to pretty accurately map roads, buildings, trails, etc. strava heatmap can be used by setting a custom background with the following URL: https://heatmap-external-{switch:a,b,c}.strava.com/tiles-auth/all/red/{zoom}/{x}/{y}.png?Key-Pair-Id=REPLACE THIS&Signature=REPLACE THIS&Policy=REPLACE THIS But, you need to log in to the strava global heatmap page, and then find the website cookie data that corresponds to those three REPLACE THIS sections of the url. And you have to redo that every like 2-3 weeks. Kind of annoying, but a great source of data! |
| 70968470 | over 6 years ago | Ok, I expanded the size of long branch farm. Note that there is a separate area to include if you check the total size of the farm. |
| 70968470 | over 6 years ago | I've looked in the past and unfortunately the Clermont County Auditor only provides scans of paper copies of the land surveys and a map that shows all of the parcels in an area. I can do a rough trace later today of the property you missed (it is across gaynor road, but there are no trails there). |
| 70968470 | over 6 years ago | Thanks for the tip Minh! For what its worth I actually mostly used gps and traced the imagery just a little bit where I didn't get a chance to hike. (here is the trace I used: @reportingsjr/traces/3007975) |
| 33230423 | over 10 years ago | I was thinking about emailing you to get suggestions from you on this, haha. I just tried splitting the segments and it finally worked! It looks goofy, but it seems that is an artifact of the OSM rendering engine. Thanks Nate! |
| 27469410 | almost 11 years ago | Thanks! I'll try to keep it updated as construction continues. Winter project until it is warm enough keep mapping local trails. :) |
