Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me. I've gone with your approach. I've removed the pavements where the additional doesn't bring enough benefit - i.e. the pavement isn't set back from the road or isn't distinct from another feature. I've done this has a change rather and reverting this changeset.

If I connect the pavements to the road at the junctions / intersections. Do you think this would solve the problem?

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I was looking at London streets, which seem very well mapped - at least better than Oxford. They seem to have this level of detail. Perhaps it's not appropriate.
