Hello,

I think it is a somewhat controversial (and not by any means new) topic with decent arguments to be made on both sides:

osm.wiki/Duck_tagging

https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2020-April/051864.html

- I did not create these specific trails as cycleways. I have been just trying to update and clean stuff up after actually riding them recently. They definitely are dedicated, designed-for-MTB singletracks, not some random passages in the forest not forbidding access by bikes.

- Most MTB areas in Kentucky I am familiar with use cycleway (and I have added some trails this way).

- I am not particularly fond of how generic highway=path is, but would not feel about it strongly enough to revert if someone made a consistent cycleway->path change everywhere :-).

Cheers!

BTW, a temporary (?) "FWD car parking" was on the east side of the road on March 31, 2021. There was some grading/construction going on on the west side. It is possible that the lot is on the west side now but any aerial imagery is likely to be obsolete.

I made the loop cycle route (overkill) based on https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7015061/bald-rock-loop-2016 . I also used the current and pre-2019 heatmap. I think there was a well-attended MTB bike race on the south part which could be the source of the majority of old heatmap traces. Unfortunately it seems that this trail building project is abandoned now.

I recently hiked the southern/Flat Hollow and the Sore Heel Trail, returning on the gravel road to Flat Holler (4 miles covering the east part). I did have problems finding any obvious trail in the southernmost part
that would match either the "official" map or mtbproject. I can share my GPX file.

Is the GIS data the same as what's on the map? Please feel free to make any changes that would better reflect the on the ground situation.

Thanks!
