Hi, thanks for the comment. The rationale for the relations is to be able to better interface the data between OSM and Wikipedia using the Kartographer service. The logic there demands the existance of relations with a wikidata tag in order to be able to display them on wikipedia pages.
As for the comparable tags, yes, aggregating ways based on wikidata and labels was the process of generating the relations. I am not an expert in OSM conventions. Are you saying that it will be a good idea to clean up some of the tags of the ways, members of each relation?
