In an OSM QA tool, I have noticed some issues with your changesets (https://resultmaps.neis-one.org/hdyc-osmi-issues?uid=23188560). I know these get flagged in iD Editor, but I have not used Go Map so not sure if they happen silently there. There are many overlapping nodes, but also cases like this area (way/1569724706) that should really be a multipolygon relation. Hope you can take a look at and correct these. Behind the OSM map data is a community of people that agree to some general guidelines about how to do things, and in many cases there are multiple approaches. Why I made a comment, though, is because what you seem to be creating as a standard practice for yourself in this area, in my experience is not widespread elsewhere. Maybe that's OK! But also, maybe that means data consumers won't use it the way you think they will. Or maybe people will come along and change your edits. Or maybe what is a standard convention now will change. Who knows--OSM is a giant group project! But if you want to stick with OSM (and you've put in a lot of effort in only a month and a half, so it seems like you might) the community works best when there is more connection and interaction, not less. I don't know what, if any, local options there are in Grinnell, but OSM-US has a pretty active and welcoming Slack--consider checking it out! Happy mapping :)

If you read through those threads, in most cases tagging is on a point or on the building. I think the construction equipment example recommended the entire area because it was fenced off and actually used by the business. There are other cases like schools where the entire grounds *are* often the school feature, but those are specifically pointed out on the wiki. I think those are the exceptions because the grounds tend to be larger and used for the purpose of the school. I think including the parking lot that's outside a business within the business' feature doesn't make any sense--is the optometrist or grocer doing their business in the parking lot? If you want to micromap who can park in what parking lot, access=customers seems like the correct tag. access=customers

Hi, I was editing something else in the area and noticed your edits in this changeset. I have not seen features like cafes, markets, or healthcare expanded to include surroundings like parking lots--usually they're a point inside a building or on the building way if they take up the whole building. Is there a place where you saw your method recommended? Thanks and happy mapping!

I came for the node fix (via OSM Inspector) and iD flagged the holding position--I think said that tag should be on nodes only? So I looked at the wiki and this seemed like a reasonable solution. It's not unusual for proposals to not be voted on. Those pages can be more of a place to discuss options and arrive at a de facto standard because the voting process is involved. While it seems like there are people invested in this, I am not one of them. :) If you're not on the OSM US Slack, that might be another spot to discuss this sort of thing. Happy mapping!

Welcome to OpenStreetMap! In the future, when mapping things like buildings, consider using the "square" tool (shortcut Q in iD) so they aren't weirdly shaped polygons. Happy mapping!

Hi something about your mapping of Normandale has broken the rendering. I don't do a lot of indoor mapping myself, so encourage you to review osm.wiki/Simple_Indoor_Tagging to confirm recommended editing. One thing I did notice is that you have created some indoor areas that go outside the building footprint--I'm pretty sure all indoor spaces should be contained within the main "building" feature unless they're underground. (for example, compare way/89070622 with way/1552088177). Also, the latter way is problematic because it closes on itself--not sure if this is related to the rendering issue or not. Hi, welcome to OSM and thanks for contributing! I noticed that when you added the golf cart path, you added one really long way that overlaps with itself--that last part is not OK. Would you be able to cut the path into some smaller parts and for where it currently overlaps, make sure there's only one way there? Hi, noticed you tagged a number of apartment buildings as residential landuse in this changeset. That's incorrect--they should be building=apartments. The buildings are within the Glen Oaks residential landuse area. Would you be able to fix these? Happy mapping!

Hi, I'm curious why you added layer=-1 to the pedestrian area in the water park. It seems to be at ground level, so should have no layer tag at all (implicitly layer=0). In case the crossing warnings were your motivation, I'd note that the wiki's layer page says "Do not use layer=-1 to hide warnings about crossing or overlapping ways. Either fix them properly or leave the easily visible warning so that others can fix them." Happy mapping!

Hi, I came across this changeset because of all the warnings (see above). If you'd be able to go in and clean that up, it'd be great. I'd also add, please improve your changesets by saving more often (smaller areas) and adding more meaningful changeset comments including sourcing. For example, there's no indication of development off Hunters Creek Road in the ESRI World Imagery, much less road names. Thanks and happy mapping!

Hi, relation/21019978 got flagged in OSM Inspector because of a self-overlap (basically it's a line that goes along the edge of the marsh east of where the snowmobile trail crosses the Caribou River). Would you be able to clean that up? Also, these are some very detailed traces (that is, they have a lot of nodes). Curious if you're doing this by hand or if it's some kind of import/derived data? I don't see an indication of import in the changeset. Thanks and happy mapping!

Hi, it's very unusual that you tagged Little Bear Creek as an aqueduct with a ford at the highway. It was previously tagged as an intermittent stream, and looks likely to have a culvert tunnel under the road. Can you either cite your source or correct the tagging? Thanks and happy mapping!

Hi, I happened to look at this area and noticed you'd tagged the area around railroad tracks as landuse=industrial, but it seems landuse=railway would probably make more sense, especially if it's only railway within the landuse. landuse=railway Take a look!

Welcome to OpenStreetMap and thanks for adding data around Appleton! In this changeset, you added some sidewalks that double back on themselves, but they shouldn't be drawn that way. It's OK to stop a line, then start a new one! Also, I notice some of those spots are where the walking path crosses a street, so those segments should be tagged as crossings, not sidewalks. Hi, it looks like you've been doing a lot of editing in this area, thanks! Wondering if you could adjust the buildings on Broadway so they don't overlap the sidewalk? It looks like a lot of buildings are traced to the roofline (which is distorted due to angle the imagery was taken at, especially for taller buildings) rather than the footprint.
