Hi Rafi, can you please shape buildings to the satellite imagery? I noticed some building which were far bigger than the sat imagery. Thank you for your OSM contribution. Michael

Ayush01, some of your building shapes are much bigger than the sat imagery is showing. Please work more carefully. I'm going to delete them. Michael

Lavni, work more carefully. Your building shapes are much too big and don't match the sat imagery. I'm going to delete them all.

sembra, you shapes are much to big for the buildings. Also they are not octagonized. I'm going to delete them all. Please work more carefully. Thanks.

Lavni, I saw that you were mapping buildings in Nicaragua. Thank you. Please pay attention to match the building shape and to octagonize the buildings. Your buildings are generally too big and they have odd shapes. Thank you.

Hi Piedmont Park.

This is a really good question and there is no perfect answer to it.

The short answer is that ref-tags should be as short as possible to avoid rendering issues.

The longer answer:
For all highways with an updated ref-tag, I created a relation=route and with a name=NIC-xx and a ref=xx. So you still can search for the "NIC-xx" feature and the road name shows NIC-xx, but the road banner is only "xx"

The the official documentation for the road network in Nicaragua is the Red Vial Nacional 2020 by the MTI here: https://biblioteca.mti.gob.ni/ and it lists two types of names NIC-xx mostly for the main roads and NN-yyy for mostly small roads. There is no case where NIC's and NN's share the same number. So the number is unique within the entire Nicaragua.

On official INETER maps, the roads normally have only a number --> Google search "condega-nicaragua-50k-2956iii-1986". This map shows NIC-1 as "1" and NIC-51 as "51"

Adding NIC- or NN- to the banner road number makes it the harder for OSM to render correctly, to read and doesn't help to identify the road.

I created also relation=route together with shortening the ref tags. If the community decides to move to add NIC-xx and NN-yyy this can be very easily done.

Historically, most of the NIC and NN road names were introduce by myself in 2012-2015 when I lived in Nicaragua ;-)

Let me know what you think ;-)

Sorry, I will check it this weekend.
Where were these roads - around Las Sabanas?

Hi, the Bluefields Lagoon has minimal tide impact. Tides in the Caribbean are generally really low and the Bluefields Lagoon has also significant amounts of fresh water from several major rivers.
But of course there is no clear answer to this.

Hi 5359, this is a copy-paste error! Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I just corrected the mistake.

It has been a while, but I think, I used CUGIR for the footprints (99% sure). I did not use the Columbia website.

Hi ke9tv! I apologize for my delayed response, I overlook your previous messages. I think this corrupted address problem is a serious one and thank you for helping and correcting them!

The data source for the address points is from gis.ny.gov and governed by Creative Commons 0 (CC0) (http://gis.ny.gov/gisdata/inventories/details.cfm?DSID=921). I merged them with building footprints with QGis from the same source (sample https://gis.ny.gov/gisdata/inventories/details.cfm?DSID=1343).

I used different ID's and I shared my compiled address point/footprint files with others OSM users. Besides the one you mentioned, I used BobKelly, RobertReynolds, Nia-gara and RickMaldonado. The most time intensive task was to check the footprints on the map with existing building structures and update buildings with address data in (especially) downtown area.

Please feel free to reach out for further questions and if I can help you with the correction, I happy to do so!

Hi, as far as I can see, this is a residential area, not a park. Where did you get this information about this park? Also, please use capital letters for places.

I see you are a new mappers, thanks a lot for you input and happy mapping!

Please delete your path in the Farrell Park again. There is no satellite imagery supporting these crazy lines.

If you think I should move it back in the center between the two highways, I can do it. No problem.

Danke!

Für kleinere Änderungen kann ich Dir übrigens die Android/iPhone App "Maps.Me" empfehlen.

Geniesse Ometepe, super Insel! 😀😀😀
