Hi ftcat,

Thanks for your remark. I've wondered about this.
I've seen anthills in the field, but they were usually reddish of color.
That ofcourse depends on the type of soil in yhe underground.
The anthills we're talking about now are rather dark.
Therefore I thought they were huts made from darkish soil,
Not unlike the ants do. But I'll follow your suggestion and not mark
them as buildings anymore.

All the best to you. Regards,

Martin Duisterwinkel aka martinairmaps.

Honestly, it does not.

I don't understand why it has to be so complicated! Pages full of info about the many different ways of how to communicate around or within OSM.
Where ordinary e-mailing just works fine.
And the way we're using now.
But than again, I may be rather stupid.

Also, I don't use nor like twitter for contacts, which you also suggested some time ago.

Sorry about this all.

I just like to keep on mapping.
Hopefully without complicated disturbances.

Cheers, martinairmaps.

Thanks for your reaction.
As I mentioned already, it seems to be working OK now.

Also, it may seem stupid of me, but I say this again, I don't know how to contact you otherwise than this way. Sorry about that!
Cheers.

Correction,

I just noticed that the "flickering" has stopped and the site is available and working again.

Hi Pascal Neis,

Since I don't have your e-mail address and am not familiar with any other means of contacting you, I do it like this again.

The thing is, your site HDYCtoOSM seams out of order, keeps on flickering on the screen and does not open.

Please advise. Regards, martinairmaps.

Hello Daniel Specht,
You just invalidated the following project I mapped some time ago: https://tasks.hotosm.org/project/5968?task=508#bottom
I don't know where, if and/or whether I went wrong, but the following remark did surprize me:
"Path -- a foot route that a 4-wheel vehicle cannot use".
When doing fieldwork in Northern Moçambique (Cabo Delgado Province) in 1974, for a Soil- and Vegetationmapping Project (Landuse Development and Settlement Planning), we often went into the field (Open Bushland) with our 4-wheeldrive Landrovers to do "spotchecks". Often without hardly a path to be seen (we did use (9x9 inch black & white aerial photographs).
So, what should I make of that remark?

Maybe yes, maybe no. See e.g. https://www.flickr.com/photos/john_in_kigali/4554364880.
Besides, I've lived in a similar hut myself in a dried out riverbed in Northern Moçambique in 1974 for a while. And not a cow in sight ;)

Hi Pascal Neis
,
Thanks for your reaction.
Yes, the changeset data are in order again.

Sorry about my way of messaging to you, but Idon't have your e-mail address, nor do I use twitter.

Also am I not familiar with the OSM messaging system.

Thanks again anyway, martinairmaps

Tonight the correct mapping edits were reset of 24/6/19 and 25/6/19 (see http://hdyc.neis-one.org/?martinairmaps).
Still it is mysterious and I would like to know why and how this could happen.
I do hope you will find time to respond.
Regards, martinairmaps.

Hi pitscheplatsch (Pascal Neis),
In relation to an error (?) made in the registration of the "How did you contribute to OpenStreetMap?" edits I would like to ask you about this (I don't know how to do this otherwise).
After mapping on Project #5959 today, and saving my mapping data, I discovered that in the HDYCTOSM registration, two previous mapping days contributions were changed to "no changesets", where I DID map on these days and the contributions were registrered. Those days are 24/6/19 and 25/6/19.
I have seen that sometimes these registrations are visible a day or so later,
but never that they are "deleted".
Please tell me how this is at all possible.

Hi Greg_Rose, Thanks for your remark.
Regarding the scale of buildings, you could be right, but what about little sheds e.g., and otherr small structures? Regards, martinairmaps

Hallo Frans S

Hi Kathyaus,
Thanks for your respons and compliment.
Do you mean the long building (100 m.) just West of the Weighbridge, or is there more?
So long, martinairmaps.

70622677 over 6 years ago

Hi Kathyaus,
You validated Project 5956 on Task 73, some time ago with the remark that you had to add some buildings ("in the right corner").
I would like to know what I missed or went wrong in this task. Could my original mapping still be reproduced, so I can see what I missed? Thank you so much,
martinairmaps

Hello again,
Yes, of course, I could/should have known: one can change the background in the side bar...
Sorry about that. Cheers and keep on mapping.

Hello NicBar,
When you mapped
https://tasks.hotosm.org/project/5956?task=152
you made a remark that you "mapped a part of that task in DigitalGlobe because of clouds".
I also map in that area (and many others) but my question is, how can one map in DigitalGlobe? Could you please explain what you mean by that, because i very much would like to know how it works to map directly in DigitalGlobe.
Thank you for your possible reaction.
Regards, martinairmaps.

Hi austind27,
It looks like you have marked
https://tasks.hotosm.org/project/5956?task=24
as having "Bad imagery".
It is not clear why, there only seem to be a large(?) number of houses and huts.
Could you please unmark this task to valid, so other mappers can go on with this task? Thanks a lot.

Thanks so much for your respons and remarks, hebolz!

Talking about saving time mapping, what about using e.g. Digital Globe Footprint applications, or Building Footprints Webinar, which can produce <1000 building footprints/minute?
see:
https://www.digitalglobe.com/products/building-footprints
https://explore.digitalglobe.com/Webinar-Building-Footprints-Ecopia-on-demand.html

Which are readily available:
https://dgv4-cms-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/document/file/165/DigitalGlobe_Disaster_Response_Open_Data_Activation_Protocol.pdf

Even Amazon is playing a role in all this:
https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/big-data/querying-openstreetmap-with-amazon-athena/

We’re struggling with thousands of mappers to map enormous areas in Moçambique, on thousands of often poor quality images:
osm.wiki/Cyclone_Idai (see “Effort made”)

I’m sorry to confront you with all this, while I only started off with asking you how much time you spent validating some of my mapping. It’s probably not the time nor the place to discuss this.
But I noticed that you’re a very experienced mapper and validator and seem to know much of the work we’re all busy with and therefore thought it could be OK to do so.

I do hope you understand and don’t mind I did it.

Regards,

Martin.

Hello hebolz,
If I'm not mistaken you validated a task I've been mapping, just a little while ago:
https://tasks.hotosm.org/project/5900?task=795
What I would like to know is, how much time did it take you to validate this task?
The reason I ask this is that it took me more than 5 hours to map this task, with hundreds and hundreds of of buildings.
Can you give me an estimate of the time you spent validating it?
I hope you don't mind me asking this.
Regards,
martinairmaps
